Soledad O’Brien out at CNN?

posted at 9:46 am on January 29, 2013 by

And ABC loses another big name to CNN, according to the NYT’s Media Decoder.  O’Brien led CNN to its worst morning ratings in a decade, so new head honcho Jeff Zucker wants Chris Cuomo to take over:

Chris Cuomo, a former news anchor on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” is on his way back to the morning shift, this time for CNN.

CNN is preparing to announce that it has hired Mr. Cuomo from ABC, according to people at both networks, who requested anonymity because the announcement has not been made publicly. Mr. Cuomo is expected to become a co-host of the channel’s morning show, which is called “Starting Point” but will soon be renamed. …

CNN could use the help. “Starting Point” had just 234,000 viewers on a typical morning in 2012, its lowest total viewer number in more than 10 years. Of those, just 96,000 were between the ages of 25 to 54, the crucial demographic for cable news advertisers.

“Starting Point” is currently anchored by Soledad O’Brien. The program is only 12 months old, so CNN risks irritating its audience by making a round of changes so soon. But the top executives at CNN and its parent company, Time Warner, have been dissatisfied with the “Starting Point” ratings ever since it premiered, and they most likely believe a shakeup is in order. A representative for Ms. O’Brien did not respond to a request for comment.

I’ll bet the man most amused by this development is my friend Joel Pollak at Breitbart, for obvious reasons.  That wasn’t the only self-beclowining moment of O’Brien’s tenure on CNN, but it was the most prominent.

So long to that phony, race-obsessed, biased ratings failure. Hated her show.

Buh bye

cmsinaz on January 29, 2013 at 9:49 AM

Idiot Central awaits you Soledad…

gsherin on January 29, 2013 at 9:49 AM

I wish tingles had the same fate but alas msdnc is run by idiots

Ooooh maybe msdnc will pick her up

cmsinaz on January 29, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Chris Cuomo is just as pro-Obama biased as the woman with the fake baby voice, Soledad Obrien.

bluegill on January 29, 2013 at 9:52 AM

I’m sure she’ll find a home at msdnc.

HumpBot Salvation on January 29, 2013 at 9:52 AM

The other one I can’t stand is Savannah Guthrie on NBC.. She also needs to get the boot.

bluegill on January 29, 2013 at 9:54 AM

Bet she’s hoping for a WH gig. She deserves it, after all the Obama water carrying she’s done.

changer1701 on January 29, 2013 at 9:55 AM

So, does this mean we will have to start reading Talking Points Memo for ourselves? Jeez, painful.

Maddie on January 29, 2013 at 10:01 AM

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it…

DeathtotheSwiss on January 29, 2013 at 10:05 AM

Soledad and Piers both need a rubber-room for their protection, since their armed body guards aren’t cutting it.

Rovin on January 29, 2013 at 10:07 AM

Soledad O’Brien – the most annoying “news” person. Erin Burnett is a close second, though. And then there’s Anderson “Keeping Them Honest” Cooper. CNN is home to a lot of mediocrity (at best).

themediansib on January 29, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Wherever she goes the next special on that network
will be……..” What It’s Like Being Black And Fired
In America “

Lucano on January 29, 2013 at 10:10 AM

Well dang, and she’s been such a feisty victim lately.

Cindy Munford on January 29, 2013 at 10:14 AM

bluegill on January 29, 2013 at 9:52 AM

CNN is thinking it’s gonna have an in with the next administration. Or they were made an offer they couldn’t refuse.

phreshone on January 29, 2013 at 10:14 AM

Bet she’s hoping for a WH gig. She deserves it, after all the Obama water carrying she’s done.

changer1701 on January 29, 2013 at 9:55 AM

The Mooch would never allow that.

HumpBot Salvation on January 29, 2013 at 10:14 AM

Any joy over her well earned dismissal is tempered by the fact that they always get replaced by someone worse.

Flange on January 29, 2013 at 10:22 AM

So, who would have thought a morning show hosted by an Obama shilling race pimp wouldn’t pan out?

The core demographic that would find the show and it’s host appealing doesn’t get out of bed until the afternoon.

ButterflyDragon on January 29, 2013 at 10:31 AM

Yawn. One vapid lefist out. Another vapid leftist in.

Gingotts on January 29, 2013 at 10:34 AM

CNN lately appears to be trying to out-liberal MSNBC. CNN has gone all in on anti-gun propaganda – basically whatever propaganda the Obama regime needs.

TarheelBen on January 29, 2013 at 10:42 AM

(Clears throat)

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Adios, pendeja.

princetrumpet on January 29, 2013 at 10:44 AM

Remember people, #StopTweetingSoledad. She means it.

BigGator5 on January 29, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Gee, she is openly an outright racist and she is openly antagonistic to anyone whom she does not consider to have the same world view she has…

Wonder why nobody is watching????

georgealbert on January 29, 2013 at 10:47 AM

O’Brien is out?

O’Brien is OUT!?

Seriously, the theatrics and race card dealing in the face of awful ratings told you this was coming.

Karl on January 29, 2013 at 10:55 AM

There’s always AlGorezera.

aryeung on January 29, 2013 at 11:01 AM

Not a wise Latina.

portlandon on January 29, 2013 at 11:03 AM

CNN gets MORE white.

portlandon on January 29, 2013 at 11:04 AM

Nah, she’s just taking a sabattical to study what critical race theory entails.

blammm on January 29, 2013 at 11:05 AM

And just when her Valley Girl expressions were starting to grow on me…

forest on January 29, 2013 at 11:10 AM

I wonder what happened to Breitbart groups vetting of Obama. Didn’t seem like we say much, but the clip with Pollack and Soledad is interesting. She was clearly very emotional and invested in that argument. Can you imagine having a conversation in everyday life with someone acting like that.

earlgrey133 on January 29, 2013 at 11:13 AM

Great…Al Jezeera can get a new anchor now. Al Solidad MuBrien. Makes perfect sense.

buffyvs on January 29, 2013 at 11:46 AM

But the top executives at CNN and its parent company, Time Warner, have been dissatisfied with the “Starting Point” ratings ever since it premiered . . .

Maybe she can get on the new raghead channel-AlJazeera.

jeffinsjvca on January 29, 2013 at 11:48 AM

Cute, but dumb

John the Libertarian on January 29, 2013 at 12:09 PM

The program is only 12 months old, so CNN risks irritating its audience by making a round of changes so soon continuing to keep O’Brien even one more day.

KS Rex on January 29, 2013 at 12:24 PM

I’m sure she can get Anna Wintour to help her pick out some fab headscarves for her new gig at Al Gorezeera.

M240H on January 29, 2013 at 1:32 PM

At this point, what difference does it make?

(Lots of mileage to be had there.)

Galtian on January 29, 2013 at 1:35 PM

Bye-bye, birdbrain.

AH_C on January 29, 2013 at 1:50 PM

Soledad O’Brien was last seen wise-cracking with her old computer-generated avatar named “Dev.”

J_Crater on January 29, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Another Aff*rmative Act*on moron with a Harvard degree.

Somebody should burn that damn place down (figuratively, not literally, of course). It is responsible for more idiocy in America than reality t.v. shows.

AZCoyote on January 29, 2013 at 2:06 PM

I remember her breaking in with G4, which became TechTV, not sure whatever happened to that network. She would report on video games and gadgets and stuff, and was kinda hot.

Then she slept her way to the top, went to CNN, got older, saggy, and as carpy as a harpy with The Sayings of Chairman Mao in her pocket.

She and Mo Dowd, the washed up party girls the morning after, the Banger Sisters of news, sitting at the bar in mid-afternoon smoking cigarettes and wondering how it all went so wrong they have to buy their own drinks.

Adjoran on January 29, 2013 at 3:39 PM

Now if they would just get rid of… everyone else that works for them, they might become watchable.

CVMA-Dredd on January 30, 2013 at 10:51 AM

Years ago when they were both still at NBC, I thought of her as a “Katie Couric wannabe”.
