Video: Let’s psychoanalyze Obama on gun control

posted at 3:36 pm on January 23, 2013 by

Via Mediaite, using armchair psychology to explain complex policy preferences is almost always a bad idea, but since The One happily engaged in it vis-a-vis those mysterious bitter-clingers, I suppose turnabout is fair play.

Isn’t the obvious explanation for why he favors gun control the fact that he’s an ivory-tower liberal who thinks he knows better than the rabble what’s in their best interest? Occam’s razor, my friends.

“He’s shooting the lights.”

Obama no more cares for our safety than those Mexicans that wound up on the wrong end of the guns his administration made sure to reach drug cartels.
So we wait for these clowns to have an epiphany?

So let’s think about this for a minute…

Obama is giving Morsi f-16′s and Abrahms tanks….

but the average American Citizen can’t be trusted with an AR?

Lou Dobbs makes the point that no one talks anymore about empowering the individual to thrive on his own. Instead we get Obama who says that no one should be left to fend for themselves.

I don’t know about Ablow’s psychoanalysis of Obama, but the conclusion is right — at every turn, Obama seeks to weaken, not empower, the individual, by empowering the collective, of which Obama is the head and most powerful member.

I think they called that a dictator.

I don’t always agree with Keith, but there is no doubt he is a smart guy with plenty of experience – I saw him go after David Brock once, and thought it was a succinct, utterly brilliant analysis of his psychology.

He’s on the right path with 0dumba here.

Dobbs:

…is he truly that Machiavellian, that driven by his own ideological purpose?

Ya think Lou? If that last four years haven’t proven that then, sadly, I’m certain the next “untethered” four years will. Too just think, I was concerned about Clinton’s end of presidency and his pardons; for Omarxist, until 11:59am on 1/20/16 it will be all ideological driven unaccountability, all the time.

Sigh.

No. Occam’s razor would reveal that the simplest explanation to be the correct one.

No psychoanalysis needed. He’s an idealogue. His philosophy and tactical playbook are nothing new:

But the future he envisions is not a communistst one, but a Coercive Government/Gangster Black Market Alliance similar to what now exists in Russia.

Meh. I thought the guy was going to talk about gun envy.

Obama’s a collectivist, alright. But I had to smile at Keith. He’s giving the left a heaping scoop of their own medicine.

0bama’s daddy never loved him, so of course he would oppose any activity that is seen as masculine. Like shooting, whether it’s for sport or self defense.

While I don’t always agree Ablow, his assessment of Obama’s psychology is spot on. How could anyone, regardless of training, read Obama’s books and not SEE the separation anxiety and racial insecurity which have formed him?

Ablow’s larger point though is the most salient one. This isn’t about guns. It’s about mental health. But statists don’t have the ability to tackle complex problems. They’ve got psychological issues of their own. They’re a one-size-fits-all crowd who think that a few simple “fixes” should get the job done. They’re intellectually lazy, childish even. Their minds can’t cope with ACTUAL differences among people. Note that while they pride themselves on “diversity” and “tolerance”, those things are literally only skin-deep. When it comes to ideological differences, they’re foaming at the mouth.

It’s emotional because it’s a manifestation of their own internal anxieties. They NEED uniformity and predictability… the illusion of safety in a world where human beings are mortal and in the end no one gets out of here alive. Easier to take away all the guns than to deal with the fact that there are mentally ill people among us who are NOT “predictable”.

Murf76 on January 24, 2013 at 1:31 PM

To add another point… How remarkably ironic is it that in the statist’s haste to control his environment, and thus other citizens, the first thing he seeks to do away with is the very thing that would bring the most order? Unalienable Rights…. a little bubble of perfect freedom enveloping each person, whereby one’s exercise of personal liberty must end at the other guy’s chin. It’s an organic manifestation of The Golden Rule. And without it, there’s chaos and tumult.

In the end, the tighter the statist’s grasp, the more insult and damage he does, the more control he loses. When all the while, if every citizen had been drilled from birth to UNDERSTAND the nature of his rights and how these rights cannot impede another’s… we’d have as much uniformity as human nature can allow.

Speaking of racial insecurities, Obama first pitched the idea of his first book to publishers as a book on race. Later it morphed into “Dreams from my Father” which was plenty about race, but not the primary focus. And then we have Michelle Obama whose senior thesis at Princeton was all about race.

Do you suppose Jindal’s first major paper in his life was about his Indian race and being Indian-American? Oh, but blacks have a history of discrimination, and even for the fairest-minded among us, when we see dark skin, we have an unconscious startle reaction to the “Other”, so blacks have a tough path. But Jindal is just as dark as Obama and Michelle! So how can he overcome race issues? Doesn’t seem like a problem for him.

Murf76 on January 24, 2013 at 1:45 PM

I don’t see evidence of the Golden Rule in Obama’s life. The Golden Rule supposes a separation between people — treat others as you’d like to be treated. It presupposes no prior connection, no obligation, no shared values. In Obama’s world, the lines between people are blurred. There’s no disagreement allowed with Obama’s moral guidelines. Obama lacks grace towards others who wish to remain separate. He’s never magnanimous. If you support his vision, he’s with you. If you don’t, he’s not. It’s not the Brotherhood of Man, it’s the Brotherhood of Obama. It’s positively Islamic.
