It is ironic to hear the French wax lyrical on the importance of rules and following them and if the spat were limited to being between the UK and France it would not matter. Britain’s traditional allies in Europe are essentially saying the same thing, however, and they do have a valid point about some of the UK’s special terms which other leaders can’t justify to own constituencies.

That’s probably why it’s lasted this long, but there are too many problems, and they’re finding out that “diversity” is just as bad as it is beneficial.

While acting as the headquarters of a Joint Task Force several years ago, the ship I was on had both Spanish and French officers embarked as part of the staff. In the command and control spaces, if the Spanish officers walked in everyone mostly continued working. If the French were going to attend a meeting the big curtains around the table were pulled closed; if they went into the work area for some reason, we turned off all the screens. We remembered the Serbian air campaign.

The EU isn’t going to last another 18 months. Germany has tired of paying the tab and will reissue the deutsche mark. And I will be buying as many as I can.

Not only will it last, it will add members over time.

Germany loves the EU and the Euro, because other EU member states can’t devalue to compete, since they have the same currency.

If it costs some bailing-out, at least it’s cheaper than a world war.

And everything is settled in fiat Euros. Germany’s gold is safe, and that’s all they care about. Or is it? See recent news about it taking 7 years to be shipped to Germany from US…

When I was doing ASW with the US Navy, we were told in no uncertain terms not to trust the French for anything. French military and politicians had been a large conduit for NATO (and other countries) secrets to the Soviets and it was well known that anything classified the French got their hands on would quickly find it’s way to our enemies.

France cannot be trusted to this day. It has proven itself time and again to be untrustworthy, and for that one reason, if no others, Britain should withdraw from the EU.
