Heart-ache: National anthem at inauguration was lip-synced

posted at 1:20 pm on January 22, 2013 by

I’m going to try really hard to care about this, if only because it’s headlining Drudge right now, but I make no promises. The terrible truth revealed:

Kristin DuBois, a representative for the United States Marine Band, confirmed the former but not the latter, to the New York Post’s “Page Six,” saying, “All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day. We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.” Meanwhile, band director Colonel Michael J. Colburn says Beyoncé didn’t rehearse with the group until the night before the performance — which possibly explains why she was reluctant to do it live (or maybe indicates that she never intended to sing it live in the first place).

So Beyonce did what a lot of performers do at huge events to make sure they don’t fark things up in front of a global audience. The recorded version was still lovely. Nonethless, I recommend impeaching Obama. Not because of this. Just because.

Big winner here: Kelly Clarkson, who did in fact perform live and who’s now roundly crushing Beyonce in TMZ’s insta-poll of which of them is the better singer.

Telling.

Clarkson can sing. Beyonce f**ked her way to the top. She’s as phony as her hair.

teacherman on January 22, 2013 at 1:24 PM

Both fellow Texans. But Kelly Clarkson has such a great voice. I think she’s the only singer from American Idol I’ve truly liked.

terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 1:24 PM

It’s more surprising when they actually sing.

teacherman on January 22, 2013 at 1:24 PM

Dude that’s disgusting that you would say she slept her way to the top. She was like 15 or 16 when Destiny’s Child got a recording contract. Sick.

terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 1:27 PM

A fake autotuned “singer” was faking it? No Way!!

HotAirian on January 22, 2013 at 1:36 PM

Agreed; disgusting. But, true.

Check her wikipedia and did the math. She was actually 14. But I guess to a sexist pig like you all attractive women must have slept their way to success.

The music industry and Hollywood in general is rife with pedophiles. Her young age would have been a feature. Not a bug.

HotAirian on January 22, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Lip syncing, omnipresent teleprompters, fawning press coverage…

And the ignorant masses applaud.

Common Sense Floridian on January 22, 2013 at 1:42 PM

What else has she faked?

Yeah it couldn’t be because she (and her group) actually had some talent. Impossible.

That brings me some joy.

Ugh. Seriously?

I’m sure obozo is use to women faking it. Michelle has been faking being a woman for years.

I’d like to think Etta would’ve belted it out live.

Instead of water boarding terrorists we should slap a pair of Dr. Dre headphones on them and make them listen to that Kelly Clarkson vid looped between 2:30 and 3:05 until they confess.

Who cares about any of it? Is she suppose to get some kind of dispensation from criticism? Based on what? If these people can boo Paul Ryan for having a different view of math, I don't have any sympathy when The Won's disciples take some heat.

She may not have slept her way to the top, but she definitely left Kelly and Michelle to rot. I hope she cuts them a check every once in a while.

Good Solid B-Plus on January 22, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Kelly Clarkson is up for a truckload of Grammys and I’d be happy to see her take home every one. Especially if she’s up against well-known posers like this one.

Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 2:07 PM

She looked pretty uncomfortable right up to the time the song began and even after.

And, I don’t give a rat’s patootey about any of this. It’s a fun distraction on a cold day in hell.

I believe Kelly and Michelle both put out albums of their own. If Beyonce outsold them, that’s not her fault.

Don’t get cranky because someone pointed out the casting couch to you or the fact that they don’t care how old they are or whether they have talent.

How many talented people get left in the dust over the talentless?

Now whether this is true in her case, who knows? Just that you are not giving persuasive arguments to the contrary.

kim roy on January 22, 2013 at 2:59 PM

As conservatives we don’t lament about “fairness” like libs. Sure plenty of talented people don’t get recording deal. I still think Beyonce is talented….but are there singers out there who are much more talented than her? For sure. We don’t live in a fair world. Oh well. Deal with it.

I don’t know if the commenter is correct in his knowledge or not. Even if it were true that she slept her way to the top, it wouldn’t be her fault and I wouldn’t hold it against her. She was a kid being exploited of by adults. As for Gov. Palin, she’s a big girl who chose life in the public eye, other than pointing out the continued double standard of acceptance in these type of remarks, they come with the territory and should be factored in to career decision choices.

terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 3:04 PM

I said absolutely nothing about fairness. I stated a fact, which is talented people sometimes get left behind and that’s no guarantee of success or a pass on the casting couch.

But you knew that, so thanks for the useless lecture on fairness.

kim roy on January 22, 2013 at 3:20 PM

Considering how many child actors have serious problems later in life you just have to wonder if that is not the norm rather than the exception.

That’s your interpretation.

It’s a fact, not a lament. Of course you removed and ignored this part:

I stated a fact, which is talented people sometimes get left behind and that’s no guarantee of success or a pass on the casting couch.

Which addresses your comment that talent would possibly bypass a casting couch visit.

Build a strawman on your own time.

What a perfect metaphor for the entire inauguration spectacle! Sums it up nicely, don’t you think?
