When he left office in 1952, Truman was broke. Same with Churchill in 1945.

So was the U.S., but we managed to pay off most of that debt, for awhile.

I think the law should be removed. Carter has made millions. At this point in the country’s history, we shouldn’t be electing someone who hasn’t planned for their own retirement or can’t get a million dollar speaking gig after leaving office.

The “If it saves just one then it’s worth it” jive is the conventional justification.
The “pass anything so we can say we did something” shuffle is the conventional solution. There is no wisdom with these folk.

This system probably made sense in the 1950s, and perhaps all the way to the 1980s. Nowadays, though, Presidents get big speaking fees after they leave office, make millions in book deals, and really don’t need taxpayers to foot the bill for their Cinemax: After Dark.

Which, if true, says something about the calibre of the men holding the presidency.

Golf club memberships and wagyu beef will likely be on the list.

They cant pay for their damn utilities out of their life time salary on top of their speaking fees, book deals and stock dividends?

Meanwhile we have service men having to medical out of the military because of devastating injuries suffered while keeping us safe and they cannot even get disability pay expedited in under 24 months! Not to mention they should be getting special benefits to offset living expenses, that result from those injuries.

We need to fire every person in congress, the executive branch, and all these BS agencies (EPA,IRS,GSA et all) today and take the bull by the horns!

No… The conventional wisdom on gun control is to pass something, anything, in order to look like you are doing something.

Flange and Chuck Schick suggests that this is an actual solution to a real problem: If you distract Bill Clinton, he can’t get into any actual trouble with your daughter who just happens to be his intern. Whether they are right or not is the real debate.

So if it saves just one intern it’s worth it.
