Yes, that crack White House public-relations team scores again. Apparently, no one in the media operation thought to check out the availability of ChuckHagel.com, but opponents of the Hagel nomination certainly did:
A group critical of President Barack Obama’s choice of Chuck Hagel’s to be Secretary of Defense on Monday purchased the Web site domain ChuckHagel.com to oppose the former Nebraska senator’s nomination.
The Emergency Committee for Israel, an advocacy group led by Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, is sponsoring the new site and has already produced television ads against his nomination.
Oopsie! Here’s the latest video at the site, featuring Hagel discussing the “Jewish lobby”:
Actually, the more interesting point from that clip is the implied criticism of his then-colleagues in the upper chamber, when Hagel says, “I’m a United States Senator, not an Israeli Senator.” I wonder how many of his colleagues in the Senate now would like to ask which Hagel thinks are disloyal to the US.
