It’s official: Obama reelected to a second term

posted at 6:35 pm on January 4, 2013 by

And there was much rejoicing.

The outcome wasn’t a surprise: Barack Obama was reelected Friday to a second term as president. …

The votes of the much-discussed but quickly forgotten Electoral College were tallied and certified in a joint session of Congress on Friday.

For Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, there were 332 votes cast. Republican Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan received 206 votes.

Thanks for the update. I was having such a good day too.

SagebrushPuppet on January 4, 2013 at 7:32 PM

Maybe this music is equally appropriate. Or should it be saved for the SOTU speech intro?

In related news, the Electoral College also voted for failure, persistent high unemployment and economic illiteracy.

Nice job, EC!

AS to the qualifications of the electors. The true reafon of requiring any qualification, with regard to property, in voters, is to exclude such perfons as are in so mean a situation that they are esteemed to have no will of their own. If these persons had votes, they would be tempted to dispose of them under some undue influence or other. This would give a great, an artful, or a wealthy man, a larger share in elections than is consistent with general liberty. If it were probable that every man would give his vote freely, and without influence of any kind, then, upon the true theory and genuine principles of liberty, every member of the community, however poor, should have a vote in electing those delegates, to whose charge is committed the difposal of his property, his liberty, and his life. But, since that can hardly be expected in persons of indigent fortunes, or such as are under the immediate dominion of others, all popular states have been obliged to establish certain qualifications ; whereby some, who are suspected to have no will of their own, are excluded from voting, in order to set other individuals, whose wills may be supposed independent, more thoroughly upon a level with each other.

Until Republicans notice that they have TWO opponents (Dems/media) in a POTUS election, instead of just one, the outcome will be the same no matter who the nom is.

They’d also have to run someone who is different and better.

As has FINALLY been noticed, you cannot beat a liberal promising free stuff and fulfilling the average liberal’s wet dreams of tyranny with…a semi-liberal promising a little less free stuff and a little less tyranny.

90% of the GOP don’t believe in freedom worth a darn, and it shows when election time comes.
