The hypocrisy shown by Al Gore on this sale is multilayered and darkly hilarious, isn’t it?  While I’m not a regular viewer of Current TV (or even a viewer at all), I’m pretty sure based on e-mails we get from them that their positions on policy roughly corresponded to (a) the rich aren’t paying their fair share, and (b) oil wealth is baaaaaaad, and not in the 1970s TV vernacular, either.  I’m pretty sure that Glenn Beck has less support from super-rich oil barons than Al-Jazeera.

However, I have appeared occasionally on Al-Jazeera talk shows, and they’re less obviously biased than Russia Today, and perhaps even MSNBC outside of Morning Joe.  They will at least be more interesting than Current is, er, currently. I’m just curious why they felt the need to buy Current rather than negotiating their own deal with cable and satellite providers.

They are buying fat Al, and has probably zero interest in Current TV as such.

Buying an existing channel instantly gives Al-J access to all (five) of those sets of eyeballs. No new contracts to negotiate and no chance for squeamish people to object.

Millions paid by anti-Semites for a cable channel nobody watches. Is there anything else we can sell them? Is it too late to sell them the print version of Newsweek?
