Hot water will become vapor in the dry air and thus have far more surface area. If you threw cold water like that, it would remain in a a few chunks.

As for hot water freezing faster than cold water, it probably has more to do with circulation than anything else. Thus, more water will be exposed to the coldest temperature.

I do too! It was 32 with a 29wc here in S TX and I am freezing! But if it was as cold as gobs here are dealing with, I would never get out of my warm cozy bed?

Current temperature – 11:30 cst (so still early morning there) – in Fairbanks, Alaska, which is about in the middle of Alaska is ~ -40 F. Yeah, I’d say that water, even boiling would freeze fairly quickly there.

Current temperature as of right now in Irkutsk, Russia (In Siberia by Lake Baikal) is -31 F. So, yeah… very, very cold.
