Bloomberg: “I don’t know what a gun would have done”

posted at 1:27 pm on December 17, 2012 by

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who politicized the Sandy Hook tragedy within hours last Friday, just wrapped up a press conference announcing new plans to fight gun violence and to counter the National Rifle Association with his own Super PAC. Bloomberg was asked by a reporter to respond to Rep. Louie Gohmert’s comments over the weekend that he wished the principal of the school, who died trying to take down shooter Adam Lanza, had a gun. Bloomberg responded by saying, “There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements…..I don’t know what the gun would have done.”

With this logic, I’m sure Bloomberg feels the same way about his armed body guards; that the guns they carry to protect him “do nothing.”

What an idiot.

Bob's Kid on December 17, 2012 at 1:31 PM

First of all, Ms. Hochsprung was one of the first to encounter Mr. Lanza.

Second, a gun is the equalizer of the world — she wouldn’t have had to face off against him with only her hands.

Bloomberg definitely has a problem.

unclesmrgol on December 17, 2012 at 1:33 PM

How did such a dumbass get so rich?

An armed security guard stopped a movie shooting in my city last night. There was only one innocent victim, who was slightly wounded.

juliesa on December 17, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Someone needs to challenge this mental dwarf to go out in public for just ONE MINUTE without his usual entourage of armed security.

CurtZHP on December 17, 2012 at 1:36 PM

I’ll give you a hint, Mikey. It would’ve increased the likelihood that Lanza would’ve died BEFORE he took out any innocent people at the school.

Bloomberg is a blooming hypocritical idiot. His hired guns are always beside him no matter where he goes.

HotAirian on December 17, 2012 at 1:37 PM

It was quite a while ago, but the principal of my elementary kept a Browning Hi-Power in his office.

HotAirian on December 17, 2012 at 1:37 PM

We should challenge him to go unarmed…

dogsoldier on December 17, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Well, I dunno what a gun LAW would have done…

The Schaef on December 17, 2012 at 1:46 PM

How did this guy make millions of dollars?

A gun would have stopped him before he even made it to the classrooms.

how many incidences like these do we see take place at a police station?

badswing on December 17, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Ask your armed guards.

HotAirian on December 17, 2012 at 1:37 PM

That’s because he is an elite for which the rules of the common folk don’t apply. The biggest problem in this country is that the common folk don’t know their place.

Frank Enstine on December 17, 2012 at 1:57 PM

Isn’t it funny how people who are surrounded by armed guards are okay with the rest of us being sitting ducks?

Night Owl on December 17, 2012 at 1:57 PM

Willful ignorance.

rightmind on December 17, 2012 at 1:58 PM

OH MY DEAR LORD. IS THIS MAN FOR REAL? What a dumbass!

He is being willfully blind is he not? This the type of person who would make a good Bagdad Bob.
Think what would happen to our country if our military disarmed?
Same principle.
I could bet my life that the monster would have been taken out before he killed those precious babies. Also very possible that he would have thought twice if he knew that there were people inside, including the teachers, with guns.
They were sitting ducks

Lambs On Fire on December 17, 2012 at 1:59 PM

Until Bloomie and Dear Leader declare a gun free zone around them, including their security details, I know they are just focused on controlling the little people…no pun intended.

d1carter on December 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM

Shot the killer?

Instead our local troll liberals would prefer she just abide her time and tackle him when he’s reloading.

gwelf on December 17, 2012 at 2:05 PM

So we can expect him to disarm the entire NYPD some time soon? Let’s see how that goes over.

Trafalgar on December 17, 2012 at 2:14 PM

There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements…

he describes himself well.

Sachiko on December 17, 2012 at 2:20 PM

The gun wouldn’t have done anything. It’s an inanimate tool. Much like Mr. Bloomberg.

Ask what might have been done with the gun.

Bloomberg will insist that the only humans capable of successfully returning fire are “trained police” or somesuch nonsense, of course, but at least it will be a half-step in the right direction.

TexasDan on December 17, 2012 at 2:24 PM

Hey Bloomingidiot – disarm your own security detail – then we can have an honest conversation about this.

Very nice! +1000

I’ve known people not trained by the police who regularly embarrassed police at shooting competitions.

dentarthurdent on December 17, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Clearly if the Teacher had had a”One gun a month” or a “Gun show loophole” or a “Waiting period” law printed out to wave in the killers face he would surely have put down his weapons and turned himself over to law enforcement.

And we elect these idiots.

countrybumpkin on December 17, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Bloomberg responded by saying, “There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements…..I don’t know what the gun would have done.”

Then I guess there’s no need for NY cops, right?

Well, we sure do know what no gun did, don’t we?

PalinLover on December 17, 2012 at 3:45 PM

Well, I dunno what a gun LAW would have done…

The Schaef on December 17, 2012 at 1:46 PM

I think we’ve already seen what a number of gun LAWs accomplished:
The perp was mentally impaired, by law he should not have had a firearm, thus he violated a gun law. He stole the firearm from his mother, breaking another law, he then killed his mother. With a firearm, thus breaking another gun law. He proceeded to a school, a gun-free zone. Upon entering the school grounds with a firearm, he broke multiple state and federal gun laws. He then committed mayhem with those firearms, again breaking multiple state and federal laws and gun laws.

So, we absolutely know what not one, but multiple gun laws did. Absolutely nothing.

AZfederalist on December 17, 2012 at 3:48 PM

There are dumb statements and there are stupid statements and Bloomberg managed to make both of those in a single statement.

“He doesn’t know what a gun would have done?”

Really? I mean, come on, really? Even for a liberal, there had to have been ways to answer that question that didn’t make him come out sounding like the complete tyrannical moron that he is, and he couldn’t think of one of them?

AZfederalist on December 17, 2012 at 3:51 PM

In the meantime, in the real world, the St. Louis police chief is calling for the arming of staff at schools. A TX gun store owner is offering teachers a discount to get a CCW permit (the normal fee is $120), and yet another school district informed parents it is now authorizing its security to be armed.

I have a feeling the gun-grabbers’ hopes of capitalizing on the murders of 20 children and 8 adults isn’t going to get very far. Sensible people saw the tragedy, and decided more guns in responsible hands is the way to go, not gun bans.

Liam on December 17, 2012 at 4:01 PM

“I don’t know what the gun would have done.”

Uh, so, why does Bloomberg have an armed security detail with him at all times?

Pork-Chop on December 17, 2012 at 4:02 PM

AZfederalist on December 17, 2012 at 3:48 PM

Shhhhh, you’ll spoil the ending.

The Schaef on December 17, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Bloomberg responded by saying, “There are dumb statements and then there are stupid statements…..I don’t know what the gun would have done.”

And this statement, magically, fits both criteria.

Good thing he’s rich and can hire people to help him wipe his butt and cut his food for him.
