Of course: Massachusetts governor thinking of appointing Ted Kennedy’s widow to Senate vacancy

posted at 1:48 pm on December 15, 2012 by

No worries. She’ll only be a placeholder until someone from the next generation of Kennedy sub-mediocrity is ready to serve.

The President has not made a choice on his next nominee for Secretary of State yet, but Governor Deval Patrick is already making plans to fill presumptive SecState nominee John Kerry’s Senate seat. Knowledgeable sources tell me Governor Patrick has already had a discussion with one potential replacement for Senator Kerry: Vicki Kennedy. The sources say the governor talked to Kennedy, the widow of Senator Ted Kennedy, about the possibility of replacing Kerry in the Senate and that she did not rule it out. But don’t count on seeing another Senator Kennedy from Massachusetts any time soon: a source close to Vicki Kennedy says she would be unlikely to accept the appointment. But again, she has not ruled it out. If Kerry is nominated and confirmed as Secretary of State, Governor Patrick would appoint somebody to replace Kerry and, under Massachusetts law, a special election would be held no later than 160 days (and no earlier than 145 days) after Kerry leaves the Senate.

It’s a testament to how popular Scott Brown is, and how surprisingly thin the Democrats’ bench is in Massachusetts, that the party’s best bet to hold Kerry’s seat is a member of the royal family by marriage, not even by blood. It’d be a gesture towards honesty if Patrick went ahead and appointed “________ Kennedy” and then let the family fill in the blank.

just appoint teddy’s corpse- who would notice the difference between it and kerry?

mittens on December 15, 2012 at 1:59 PM

As Vicki Kennedy has no history of cheating on/physically abusing/mentally abusing/ driving to suicide/plain ol’ outright killing or somehow otherwise mistreating women, she is unqualified to be a ‘Kennedy-in-Office.’

…wait a minute…

Is she by any chance a drug-abusing alcoholic?

M240H on December 15, 2012 at 2:10 PM

Darn. I left out “sexually abusing” as a Kennedy quality. That is so wrong of me, it’s a defining trait.

M240H on December 15, 2012 at 2:14 PM

Dumb political move by the Dems. Why not just appoint the probable nominee (whoever that is) and give him/her a chance to run for election as an incumbent? That worked for Dean Heller in Nevada, even though Obama carried the state.

blammm on December 15, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Do you think they would be desperate enough to run the awful Martha Coakley again? They are in deep s**t if the bench is that thin.

jeffinsjvca on December 15, 2012 at 3:52 PM

Buzz about Vicki Kennedy taking ailing husband Ted’s seat dates back, at least, to February of 2009 — where the same trial balloon was floated …

ShainS on December 15, 2012 at 3:55 PM

Isn’t that the way monarchies are supposed to work?

logis on December 15, 2012 at 4:01 PM

You would think that they would have all OD’d by now.

She married this: http://wwwc.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/0402/19/NYHETER-19s12kennedy.jpg

She’s either nuts or blind.

Hell, Teddy pickled himself while he was alive, just dig up the corpse and prop him up in the Senate chamber. No one will be able to tell the difference.

Massachusetts governor thinking of appointing Ted Kennedy’s widow to Senate vacancy

Yes! Please, please, please!

Scott Brown will be back in the Senate for sure if the Donks fumble this badly!

Bruno Strozek on December 15, 2012 at 5:21 PM

Ehh, I wouldn’t be that surprised if the next dem they dig up beats Brown. I mean hell, you could argue it took the fact that Coakley’s people openly assault people in the street before here in Mass they thought “Geez, maybe she isn’t qualified.”

Her daddy was the most powerful behind the scenes powerbroker in Louisiana during the 60′s and 70′s.

One finds it hard to believe there is no more commies in Massachusetts that they have to go back to the dry well just one more time. Let that be a lesson it took 100 years to make Massachusetts what it is and to expect a far right to win anytime in the next 25 years is just to much. Having RINO Brown voting right 7 out 10 time is well worth it to the commie chief vote commie 10 out of 10 times.

Remember that in the 2014 as well some places are lost for still lost for some time and get it back one step out of a thousand is worth it even with RINOs

It’s not like a Senate seat means anything in the State of Massachusetts, right Senator Fauxcahontas?

The only problem with that is that in 2004 the leg passed a law that there had to be a vote and gov could not appoint

The governor can appoint, but not to fill out the entire term, just for the 120 days or whatever until the special election.

You can’t spell Kennedy without KY!

Wander on December 15, 2012 at 8:50 PM

Here is the irony – Elizabeth Warren will be the SENIOR Senator from MA and she will only be a Senator beginning next month. Too funny, since Kerry was the JR Senator for decades!!!

Well, uh, I’m the kind of guy
Who likes to roam around
I’m never in one place
I roam from town to town
And when I find myself falling for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine
And take her for a whirl
Because I’m a Kennedy
I’m Ted Kennedy
The car spins round and round and round and round.

Kensington on December 15, 2012 at 11:04 PM

The biggest outrage is that Honest Injun Warren now becomes the SENIOR Senator from Mass.

Wander on December 16, 2012 at 10:12 AM

To truly represent the Kennedys wouldn’t she have to knock someone off first?

Don’t the people of Massachusetts ever get tired of this Toro Poop? And why not?

Isn’t this the kind of thing Blago got in trouble for?

I am sure she is as highly qualified to fill the Senate seat as Hanoi John is to fill the Sec. Of State vacancy. Can anyone say Nepotism?
