Damon gives Phelim a pretty good answer

Such an answer certainly wouldn’t have ever satisfied people on the left claiming that some documentary received financing from big oil. The fact that the money is part of some blind pool is no excuse. They should have been more careful about making sure their money didn’t come from a foreign country that has every reason to see fracking outlawed in this country.

Yeah, I don’t see why they cut it either.

He rambled a bit, should have just kept it at a straight forward, “There have been concerns raised recently that a major funder of your film is a UAE company, and that this funding shaped this film into propganda for shutting down fracking in this country to help make that middle eastern company billions in additional revenue, would you care to address that concern?”

But, who knows what influence if any that had. We all know that lots of companies have their hands in a wide range of investments, movies being one of them. So, unless we find out that there was a direct request to make the movie more sinister, I’ll take it as this was more propaganda from Damon directly than from the UAE group.
