Painting the dome for the big game

posted at 11:55 am on December 10, 2012 by

I’m taking a vacation day, but I thought you’d might like to see a few pictures from my visit to Pittsburgh to watch the Steelers-Chargers game.  As most of you know, it didn’t go well for the home team; the Chargers won 34-24, in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated.

I still had a blast, though, and I did follow through on one promise: I told the TEMS chatizens that I would get my head painted like a helmet.  Some of you may have already seen the results on Twitter, but my friend Michael took pictures before, during, and after the artwork.  Some of the reaction shots are hilarious:

Actually, I got a lot of positive reactions to this all day long … even at the airport on the way home. One woman asked me if I’d let her take a picture of me to show how insane Steeler fans can get, and I posed for her while her friends laughed. It turns out one of the women had the seat next to me on the flight home, and we had a nice conversation about pretty much everything except the Steelers. The first thing I did when I got home — after clearing the 12-14″ of snow off my driveway that had accumulated during the day — was get in the shower to clean up, which took a lot less work than I’d feared.

Anyway, I had a great time, and would do it again in a heartbeat, including the artwork!
