Amsterdam proposes “scum villages”

posted at 6:11 pm on December 4, 2012 by

Can we count just how many horrid 20th century chapters of humanity this might evoke?

In a move that sounds straight out of Orwell, Amsterdam allocated 1 million euros last week to a plan that would relocate trouble-making neighbors to camps on the outskirts of the city, the BBC reports.

The “scum villages,” as critics have called them, would lie in isolated areas and provide only basic services to their unwilling residents. According to details of the plan reported by Der Spiegel and the BBC, residents will live in “container homes,” under the watchful eye of social workers or police. The residents themselves might not make very good company. According to the BBC, they’ll include families that engage in repeated, small-scale harassment, like bullying gay neighbors or intimidating police witnesses.

Or perhaps just people whose political and social perspectives annoy the ruling class.  Say, didn’t the Soviet Union and China try this out for a few decades?  They called them “re-education camps,” as I recall, where people who didn’t cooperate properly with enforced collectivism were kept under the “watchful eye” of the police state.  In the Soviet Union, the Kremlin transformed Siberia into an internal-exile internment province.  In some areas of the world — notably North Korea — this practice hasn’t yet ended, either.

If law and order are breaking down in Amsterdam, start building a prison and bolstering law enforcement, but don’t try to pass it off as a social-welfare program.

AAAAnd, when the money runs low, they can just herd ‘em in to the containers, lock the doors and add some gas… that would be providing some

basic services to their unwilling residents

Reminds me of something someone’s tried before… just can’t quite remember the details though…

We already have those in California.

They’re called Los Angeles and San Francisco.

I wonder how long the progressives in America start wanting this. Remember Euroland is their idol.

The only thing that keeps the ‘hood the ” ‘hood”, is the tradition of rejecting the values that built this country. Every opportunity to leave under one’s own power is directed, and funded, under a panoply of federal, state, and local laws directing preferential treatment in employment, housing, and education. All of this available in addition direct assistance.

And there are far, far too many immigrant success stories -they abound- to refute the above statement. If you are unfamiliar with the contrasting realities, you need only ask an immigrant -especially actual African immigrants- what their opinion is of your “urban areas”.

They just need to call them camps…whoops, can’t do that because there’s another c-word in front of that one. How about Great Leap Forward…dammit, been there, done that, have the coffins. Oh, I know. Let’s go foreign – gulag.

That would be interesting. Lump a bunch of repubicans together and you might find a functioning society surrounded by filth. It would be kind of like the Amish in the PA and midwest. people think they’re weird, but they can take care of themselves.

And remember this is in the ultra-liberal, ultra-”tolerant” “paradise”(of libertinism) of the Netherlands. Right. Tolerance for the approved groups. Everyone else? Shove off.

So that’s why the dutch sent a fact finding team to Detroit.

HumpBot Salvation on December 4, 2012 at 9:40 PM

The Dutch, though smart, were long ago infected with PC. So instead of this little futile effort: deport them! If you don’t work, leave now.

AshleyTKing on December 4, 2012 at 9:40 PM

Rather typical of progressive thinking in that its never acceptable to go back to things that worked, one must always keep moving forward (there’s that word again). In this case, they are trying to engineer a solution to a problem of their own making, the creation over the course of the last 3 generations of a massive lawless feral class with no consideration for others, a massive sense of their own entitlement to behave exactly as they want and sufficient funds to do so. Instead of looking at the methods that kept this in check in the past, they insist ‘we’re not going back to the 1950s!’ and come up with stuff like this when they’ve run out of other stupid ideas. It will find a sympathetic ear in many quarters, however – I wasn’t without a small shrug of ‘about time’ when I first read of it myself. After all, these are not just occasionally noisy neighbours. They are people who make the lives of those around them a misery with constant crime and antisocial behaviour that goes unchecked by police and the law courts. Do you know how difficult it is to get arrested, let along sent to jail in Europe or here in Australia? And they’re not just one difficult family on a single street, they’re often every other house on every street throughout entire districts. But what this proposal appeals to is the idea of a quick and easy fix when the alternative of genuinely repairing the social damage wrought post-WW2 would not only take as long again but would also require many of the very people on whose behalf this is being suggested to surrender vast swathes of their own ‘individual rights’.

This all hinges on who gets to decide what constitutes “scum”… which will of course be progressives.

Cornell Conservative on December 4, 2012 at 10:59 PM

In post-war England it was called Town Planning. Worked like a treat – we knew exactly where the scum were, and they knew where we lived.

OldEnglish on December 4, 2012 at 11:09 PM

I think you are missing the point about how desperate things have become in that area and that area is one of thousands. Most of those who are to be “re-educated” would have been in prison or deported long ago if they were not Muslims. This goofy idea will fail of course but it is a sign that officialdom concedes/recognizes that some thing will need to be done. It won’t be government that will do it, they are frightened and gutless, the mobs will.

I like your label. That describes these dregs of society.
They are coming here to North Dakota and making life $hitty for the rest of us who are polite & law biding & play by the rules nicely.
I don’t feel sorry for these people.
I was very poor once and I lived like a transient at times, but in no way was I ever lawless or impolite.
I pulled myself up by my bootstraps & while I’m not rich, I’m a lot better off, bcs I worked.
Humans can be such worthless slovenly creatures.
I am reminded of the trouble makers in our cow herd.
We cull them.

Sounds like public housing. Very progressive, and a big big success.

forest on December 5, 2012 at 10:09 AM

Most European cities do not have a hood. There are a lot of bad people living in Section 8 housing right next to people who have paid 7 figures for their home. You can imagine how pleasant it is in some circumstances.

Couple that piece of social engineering to a legal framework that pretty much always sides with the scumbags and you can see what they’re trying to do. But it’s a band-aid when in fact they need to perform a total rethink of how their society is structured and what the purpose of their legal system is.

CorporatePiggy on December 5, 2012 at 11:06 AM

In this country we call that Detroit.

CorporatePiggy on December 5, 2012 at 11:06 AM

Exactly. It would be like herding all the poor Democrats into walled-off areas where the only way in and out for people was by helicopter. Yes we’d be rid of a lot of drug-dealers, boomcar-drivers, and other assorted trash…but it wouldn’t actually fix our culture’s rottenness.

MelonCollie on December 5, 2012 at 11:25 AM

Yeah, lets pretend So. Chicago, E. Cleveland etc. etc. don’t really count, and are not scum villages controlled by the Democrats.

That’s coming when the libertarians and sucker conservatives help legalize pot, with other drugs soon after. If you despaired at how little we’re stopping the destruction of freedom, just TRY and get anyone interested in anything political when everyone down to middle schoolers are on self-administered Soma.

I swear the liberals must be laughing their empty heads off.

Enough drugs and the occupants might barely even recognize what’s happened to them, let alone be able to fight back. The liberals here must be rubbing their hands in glee that the pothead contingent is growing.
