At presser, Obama repeatedly mispronounces Aung San Suu Kyi’s name

posted at 9:54 am on November 19, 2012 by

Not the only name he messed up, either:

Ever gracious, Suu Kyi did not correct her American guest for calling her Aung YAN Suu Kyi multiple times during his statement to reporters after their meeting.

Proper pronunciation for the Nobel laureate’s name is Ahng Sahn Soo Chee.

The meeting came after Obama met with Myanmar’s reformist new President Thein Sein – a name he also botched.

As the two addressed the media, Obama called his counterpart “President Sein,” an awkward, slightly affectionate reference that would make most Burmese cringe.

Note to presidential advisers: For future rounds of diplomacy, the president of Myanmar is President Thein Sein – on first and second reference.

He also mispronounced “Burma” as “Myanmar.”

Smart power. Imagine the cackles from the Left if that dummy Bush had done this. Good thing Ed ended the Obamateurism of the Day, since his re-election meant he was no longer an amateur. Or something.

😯

In India, Richard Gere got hell for kissing some Indian movie star. There they have a more modest attitude towards such public displays of affection. I wonder what the Burmese think of the Drudge pictures? Ugly Americans.

From the Daily Mail:
The charmer-in-chief: Obama gets flirty as he schmoozes with Thai prime minister on first stop of historic Asia visit

He is an international embarrassment. If the flirting & inappropriate over-affection weren’t enough, here’s another example:

Obama joked with a monk at the monastery that he hoped praying would help his administration reach a deal on the budget.

Wait, didn’t we learn during the Bush admin even mispronunciations were proof of idiocy?

Now getting the names of important foreign dignitaries and even entire countries wrong is unworthy of notice?

It would be helpful if the MSM would issue a PSA when they change these rules of thumb.

novaculus on November 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Mispronunciation was not the half of this man’s arrogance and narcissism.

I was washing dishes in the middle of the night, and and as I frequently do in the kitchen, I turned on the TV. There were no good movies on so I flipped to FOX. Usually they’re going with reruns at that time.

Last night, however, because of the time difference FOX was carrying the speech live. This is what he said (link is from ABC because a search turned it up):

“That is how you must reach for the future you deserve – a future where a single prisoner of conscience is one too many, and the law is stronger than any leader,” he said.

So just how does he explain his push to force Protestants, Catholics and any other pro-life people to violate their consciences? How does he think that will end?

He’s is disgusting.

That Thai PM is hot. Does Obama know she’s a tranny? Considering Michelle, he’s probably OK with that.
