Now that I know I won't be able to find any at all, I am kinda hoping you are correct CM. Twinkies were something my mother would not allow in the house and always something I got when over at a friend's. Ding Dongs & Ho Hos however did manage to sneak in once in awhile. I liked those.

I have made these at home and they are very very good.

The nice thing about this recipe is that it’s quite easy to make, and you can also use whatever filling you’d like. I’ve made them with buttercream filling, chocolate buttercream, toffee, etc.

You can also just make the cakes and use them for all sorts of desserts.

SPY Magazine did a big story on the Twinkie a number of years (ok, many years) ago.

They enlisted several top-flight gourmet pastry chefs to do their best at duplicating the Twinkie. Several recipes were given.

Hopefully someone out there (??) can locate and publish these lost culinary gems?

So Michelle Obama managed to get rid of the Twinkie? Will Malomars be next? Maybe the legalize-marijuana crowd needs to get mobilized…
