Well, there is this difference:

One wishes they could do what Stalin did.
The other did what Stalin did.

Stalin did not commit any “crimes” because everything he did was “legal” in the system he worked in.

The fact that pretty much all of his actions defied and acted opposite to what you and I would call the most basic moral restrictions on humanity is irrelevant.
