Elections Have Consequences

posted at 2:47 pm on November 8, 2012 by

As countless amounts of current workers in this economy are going to find out when they receive pink slips in the next few monthsWhether the company be small or large, the decision to gear up for the new American expansion or hunker down in cost-cutting survival mode for at least another four years is being made in boardrooms and offices all over the country.

A majority of voters decided on Tuesday they do not perceive the coming debt crisis and our short and long term economic health to be as big a concern as whether gays can marry, whether abortion on demand is in jeopardy, whether condoms should be free (and whether male porn stars should be forced to wear them),  and whether pot should be legalized. But business owners, being the successfully-demonized, greedy capitalists they are, their election season begins now.

And their vote is really the one that people are going to feel in the months ahead.

thirteen: Unless you tell them what they want to hear, they will not listen to you.

IOW, the only way to convince these people by ‘argument’ (or what pass es for argument in this country in this day and age) is to promise them what they want. Succinctly, unless you are willing to out-liberal the liberals, you will not succeed.

These people, I am convinced, actively do not want to hear the truth if it conflicts with their worldview.

It is more likely, though by no means guaranteed, that letting everything fall apart is more likely to bring this message home.

They have replaced Father and Mother with the State, and, interestingly, have invested the latter with the authority of the former. Therefore, when things go wrong, they do not ask ‘strangers’ what’s wrong. They ask their Parents, and they trust what the State tells them. If it conforms to their worldview (e.g., ‘the evil rich did this to you’), they will believe it like the children they are, even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

Therefore, the first step in ‘fixing’ their worldview is to allow them to figure out for themselves that their authorities are wrong. Attempts to persuade generally provoke a reinforcing of that authority rather than a weakening of it.

Better to let them figure it out on their own.

sheikh of thornton: Stupid people will learn the consequences of their actions.

Unfortunately, the stupid people will continue to buy fried pork rind with their EBT card, drink their 16 oz or smaller Slurpees, live in their Section 8 subsidized housing, talk to their friends of their free Obama cell phone and get their free healthcare under Obamacare.

Those Boeing layoffs just announced were Director and above. That means each and everyone of those paychecks were $130K a year. That’s not average – that’s minimum. And all that spend which would have created who knows how many jobs has just disappeared into the smoke.

worldtvlr on November 8, 2012 at 5:02 PM

Pink slips are already rolling in. Between companies figuratively going to the bunker for the long haul, or ObamaCare forcing employers to cull the workforce, there is going to be hell to pay thanks to the electorate voting for “free stuff”.

Almost like that’s their plan.

I also agree on the charity front as someone already mentioned. Apologize to charities and simply tell them your income has become too constrained under Obama’s economy to any longer afford extra to give.

Had lunch with a 2xObama friend today. Asked him straight up: “Now that your guy has won for the second time, what fundamental transformations have been cemented in place and what new ones do you see unfolding?”

He was befuddled by the question – didn’t understand what I was talking about.

Finally answered: “The GOP has had the House since 2010, so nothing happened and nothing will happen until mid-terms.”

I kid you not.

I don’t think it’s kool aid – he’s a smart guy and works in the financial sector.

I really don’t think he understood the contextual nuance of the question, i.e. – Obama ran as an agent of fundamental transformation. Now you got it – now what do you see as the consequences?

I just don’t think he makes the connection between cause and effect, as per this post.

No they won’t, not until the checks stop coming.

California’s Democratic Party stayed in power by using its propaganda agencies, the LAT, the SF Chronicle, the networks, the local churches, and the activists, as megaphones large and small to blame anyone but Democrats for what’s wrong with that state. They turned on the small, moribund California Republican Party for the state’s inability to close it’s deficit gap and address its debt burden. Stalin did this in the Thirties when he put the “wreckers” on trial to answer for his assorted crimes.

The Republicans are a joke in California. Hitler could beat the GOP in a statewide election.

And the people in California’s one party regime ALWAYS vote for the Regime, for bankruptcy, for penury, for continued poverty and attacks on the middle class.

The National Democrats watched, and learned.

I think what everyone is missing is that the takeaway of this election is that the electorate has successfully divorced cause from effect.

Therefore, no effect will be traceable to its cause.

Because of this, if unemployment goes up, it’s not Obama’s fault.
If the economy doesn’t recover, it’s not Obama’s fault.
If anything bad happens, it’s not Obama’s fault.

Because you cannot count on the electorate to see cause and effect anymore, any argument of ‘let it burn and pick up the pieces after it’s over’ will not work, because they will not attribute the failure to the appropriate causes.

Scott H on November 8, 2012 at 3:22 PM

This. Economic illiteracy is the foundation of the modern Democrat party.

Anything and everything that goes wrong could be blamed on the “free market,” even hyper-regulated markets like health insurance.

Chuck Schick on November 8, 2012 at 7:25 PM

The primary voters gave the people a very moderate differential. Conservatives who have been being shat upon since Newt Gingrich was shoved out of the speaker of the house position have finally had it with the lot of you and refused to eat the shit sandwich you offered them.

News to all of you, CONSERVATIVES, the REAL ONES, live lives that can withstand what OBAMA will be doing to you for the next 4 years. Feel free to put up another “my views are progressive” politician in 4 years, and like earlier this year, my prediction will be repeated, that person will not be elected, even if the next Democrat put up for election is even worse than Obama.

Feel free to blame those who did not vote. But it is the primary voter and the candidate who failed. Part of that failure happened on this blog when it joined dozens of other alternative media outlets to destroy any opposition to Romney while making any attack on Romney completely off limits.

Perhaps Hot Air does better financially having Obama in office and did what they could to make it happen. Pushing the idea that Romney was leading in reality may have suppressed the Republican vote. We were all told how we should be looking at an R + instead of a D +7 electorate, thus an Obama +1 poll really meant a Romney +5.

Either way, it was Romney’s job to turn out the vote. It was Romney’s job to make sure there was no cheating going on at the polling places. It was Romney’s job to win the election, he volunteered for the position, he worked his ass off to be in that position, he failed miserably in that position.

You are wrong. Once they actually feel the consequences they will learn. Right now they do not feel the consequences. They have welfare, Social Security, Disability, food stamps, housing assistance, title 9 and on and on and on and on and on and on and on the list goes.

So long as we provide the wealth to fund these with the products, not the money, the government can print as much as they want and have shown they can, but they cannot create WEALTH. Take away the WEALTH, and eventually people will feel the pain and LEARN the lessons to be learned. Time to go back to slavery. Force people to create wealth.

Here you go — I filled in the missing verse.

Oh the election results were frightful
But the fire will be delightful
And since we’ve no place else to turn
Let It Burn! Let It Burn! Let It Burn!

There’s no sign of destruction stopping
So I’ve bought some corn for popping
There’s just one way progressives learn
Let It Burn! Let It Burn! Let It Burn!

Give Obama the rule’s crown
Rubber stamp is the name of the game
When the country comes tumbling down
There’s nobody else to blame

Now the country is slowly dying
Voters spoke, there’s no use crying
Let the country get what it earned
Let It Burn! Let It Burn! Let It Burn!

Nothing will change until we get a handle on the most basic pieces of the problem.

Our poor people (and most of Europe’s also) live a life style that is light years beyond what any second or third world countries poor people live. Let’s face it, our country right now is so rich that we have an obeisity epdemic in our poorest of people because they are being given too much to eat. Let that sink in for a minute, the poorest people in our country are fat and live a lifestyle that is reserved for the rich in third world countries. Why would they vote for anyting else? They would be stupid to upset the gravy train, and personally if I was one of them, I would vote the same way.

No other civilization on Earth past or present ever had that kind of problem, and frankly there isnt any precedent for dealing with it. Late Roman civilization came close but they fell apart before it really had any Empire wide effect.

Until we can figure out a way to wean poor people off of their free Cell phones, LCD TV’s Cable internet, etc., we will not be able to fix the problem. And personally I do not see that happening until we all leap off the fiscal cliff and let that sort things out. It will take a few years of tough love but it is going to happen. The last 30 years of free stuff is pretty much over.

The Rogue Tomato…deserves the Nobel prize in poetry.

Those of a Libertarian bent are probably registered Republican, but they have given up.
They will never vote for a big government, bankster, NWO, statist again.
We figure to let the Marxists/Socialists win until they run out of OPM.
Then it will burn and we can start over with the Founders vision.
The tree of liberty needs some heavy pruning.
