Video: Mr. Burns endorses Romney, of course

posted at 5:31 pm on November 2, 2012 by

A useful follow-up to the last post and a perfect complement to dreck like this. There is no strong case “for Obama” at this point among most of his supporters, which surely includes the majority of the “Simpsons” writing staff. There’s only a case against Romney, and thanks to O’s “bright shiny object” strategy this summer and the media’s gaffe obsession, much of the anti-Romney stuff that’s penetrated the popular consciousness is detritus. They actually include “the empty chair” and the $10,000 bet at one of the debates in Smithers’s list of grievances, along with the urban myth of Romney saying he “likes to fire people.” (He said he likes being able to fire people when they don’t provide the services he’s paying them for. You like it too. So do I. So does everyone.)

Let me know when the “South Park” guys endorse. In that case, I’ll care.

Wait a minute Allah. Bloomberg already endorsed Obama, he can’t endorse Romney as well.

“Broccoli Obama” or “Meat Romney”

That’s actually pretty funny.

Abby Adams on November 2, 2012 at 5:41 PM

Simpsons should have ended like twelve years ago… along with the myth that Democrats can be centrists.

Anyone else remember when TV shows were just TV shows and not ways for the creators to shove their political opinions down people’s throats?

Cyhort on November 2, 2012 at 5:49 PM

Hey, remember the ’90s?

Ted Torgerson on November 2, 2012 at 5:53 PM

You would think Obama’s policies of shutting down coal fired power plants and the industry itself, along with his limitations on oil and natural gas drilling as energy sources would make the owner or a nuclear power plant happy, since Obama’s killing off his competition. Monty’s a bit off his game here….

jon1979 on November 2, 2012 at 5:56 PM

In other words, the creators of the Simpsons endorse Obama.

They’ve always pushed their politics; only back then, they knew they had to be subtle about it. This didn’t happen overnight. There’s been an incremental pushing of the envelope for decades to get us to this point. Step by step, inch by inch.

Well, yes, I do.

I also remember watching All in the Family and laughing (pretty hard, too)

Just remember, unlike Winston Smith, you can take your cable boxes back to the cable company and say No Mas…

The OFF switch works pretty well, too.

turfmann on November 2, 2012 at 6:07 PM

That was actually a fairly amusing bit.

JohnGalt23 on November 2, 2012 at 6:11 PM

I’m confused. Why is George Soros endorsing Romney?

SagebrushPuppet on November 2, 2012 at 6:41 PM

*meh*

When Smithers reels off the “reasons” Mitt shouldn’t be elected – I mean – that’s all the left has. THOSE “reasons.” And every last one of them is nothing but silly.

I rather enjoyed the binders full of women on the desk next to him.

vegconservative on November 2, 2012 at 6:52 PM

I was hoping that when Obama took the top of his plater there would be a fork and knife and recipe book “To Serve Dogs”

dirtseller on November 2, 2012 at 7:16 PM

I haven’t watched the Simpsons in years, the writing has been so bad.

Broccoli Obama or Meat Romney?

Uh, how much do these guys get paid…
(the “Women Binders” bit was mildly amusing, tho)

Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on November 2, 2012 at 8:18 PM

Well, I’m pretty sure that Obama can count on Homer’s vote.

esnap on November 2, 2012 at 10:37 PM

…how far the show has fallen since “Homer’s Phobia” or “You Only Move Twice”.

So very

Jeddite on November 3, 2012 at 12:13 AM

Isn’t this a rehash from 2008? Just like they used the same exact clip of Homer voting for Obama and it changing for McCain in 2008 and now Romney in 2012, ironic seeing we’re 3 for 3 on the opposite scenario happening.

Rbastid on November 3, 2012 at 1:48 AM

This does not bother me, as Mr. Burns is awesome.

StarSlinger on November 3, 2012 at 9:38 AM

MAN! Is that show still on? Thought it went out with Simply Red and direct dialing.

sanjuro on November 3, 2012 at 11:28 AM
