Video: Biden delivers the top 10 list on Letterman

posted at 2:31 pm on November 2, 2012 by

Number three is cute, but any comic bit involving Joe Biden that doesn’t goof on the Biden persona is an opportunity wasted. Team O wasn’t going to okay any script that made him look stupid, though, so that’s not Letterman’s fault. What’s Letterman’s fault is the fact that most of these lines wouldn’t have made the cut at the Al Smith dinner. Good lord, man. You’re a professional.

The Atlantic has a nice rundown of early voting leads state-by-state. The GOP continues to lead in Florida, North Carolina, and, importantly, Colorado. Obama has the lead in Iowa, but it’s much diminished from where it was in 2008 — enough so that Team Romney feels confident they can make up the difference with independents on Tuesday.

Dang…even the comedians are phoning it

Heh. That was good for a few chuckles. Particularly, the item that says you don’t have to pay income taxes if you vote early.

On a side note, that was quite possibly the friendliest I’ve ever seen Biden on camera. If he interacts with his constituents in that manner, I can see how he was a senator for 30 years. Heck, for as much grief as I give my own congressman for being a stooge of Big Labor, I’ve met him and can honestly say he seems like a great guy, politics aside.

Very few late night hosts seem to be making any attempt at being funny anymore. Conan does it, Leno does occasionally, but when their jokes are met with applause instead of laughter you know they’re doing something wrong.

They told Joe there were only nine things on the list.

There is a tell-all book written by one of Biden’s former assistants that says he is a jerk to work for.

Ah, well. So Biden wears one face for his constituents, a second one for the campaign cameras, and a third one for his employees. I guess I’m not surprised.

If you were a comedian paying even the smallest iota of attention to national politics, and you had Joe Biden on in a situation that didn’t even make an attempt to get one laugh out of the VP’s goofiness, you are No. 1 on the list of Top 10 hacks.

Odds are if Obama loses on Tuesday, it will be tough for Letterman not to do a Top 10 list every night over the next four years that doesn’t make fun of Mitt Romney, since he’s basically become Keith Olbermann with a studio audience and an orchestra.

Huh for once #1 was the best one.
