They’re Not In Wisconsin Anymore

posted at 4:15 pm on October 30, 2012 by

Late last week, news got out that both Mitt and The One were advertising in Minnesota.

The Conventional Wisdom on both the left and right was “It was intended to cover western Wisconsin”, a fertile source of GOP votes for any potential attempt to flip the state.

All true.

But over the weekend the Star/Tribune Minnesota Poll showed Minnesota a three point race – and this morning, Bill Clinton started his day leading a rally at the University of Minnesota

…and the former President and Team Obama’s killer app is on his way to Duluth this afternoon.

Democrats in Minnesota are spinning the Duluth trip as part of the plan to help returning DFL nominee Rick Nolan unseat freshman GOP rep Chip Cravaack, and help unseat freshman Sean Duffy across the bay in Wisconsin – which makes sense if you ignore all the bleeding he’s needed to stanch in Ohio, Colorado, New Hampshire and Florida.

But Minneapolis?  The heart of the Big Blue Machine?

Minnesota may not be in play.  But if it were, what would Team Obama be doing differently?

Looks like triage to me, or what McCain was doing in red states in ’08.

Is it too late for the Democrats to run a Clinton?

Bill? Hillary? Chelsea? Buddy? George?

Advertising to western Minnesota in the Sioux Falls and Fargo/Grand Forks media markets? I just called Mom…she said they aren’t.

Outstate MN is already pro-Romney for the most part, and the counties that went for Obama in 2008 are comparatively small in population. Keeping the Dem base energized in Twin Cities and Duluth is the ballgame for Team O.

I think if they had the time to spare and Sandy wasn’t an issue, they might send Biden, but Clinton is obviously more effective and a BiggerFD than Joe. Sending Obama would be too much of an obvious panic move and the panic would become the story.

Just read that Ryan appeared in MN today at the airport…hmmm….

Biden will be in Superior, WI this week. For those that don’t know, that’s right across the river from Duluth.

I don’t think that MN is realistically in play, but it’s a fun thought to toss around.

Well, if Ø is under 50%, then it’s very feasible.

UMD’s Kirby Ballroom will host today’s event, with doors set to open at 12:30 p.m. No tickets will be required, and admission will be granted on a first-come basis. The ballroom’s maximum capacity is 750 people.

750 people. Correction, 750 seats. No ticket required.

They bring Bubba all the way to MN for SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY students and/or anonymous passersby??

I smell desperation in the air.

Halperin also reporting that Obama is going up on Detroit affiliates for the first week of November.

Endgame.

I think all of the talk of MN, WI, MI, and PA being in play has them scared to death. If nothing else it just means that they are trying to shore up the states that are normally a lock so they aren’t absolutely embarrassed. If they lose Ohio they can claim racism in the Southeastern Ohio, but if they lose MN, WI, or MI, their racism meme loses its edge.

Pro Romney super pacs have been airing in MI for several weeks. They are on cable and broadcast channels. Few Obama ads have aired.

Buddy died shortly after Clinton left office. George would be the most fun.
