I have lived in a rural area and it was nice to get in the car and drive to town to get what was needed. I’d shop at the local grocery store, where they knew who I was. Same with going to the bank, gas station, etc. Orscheln’s and the local hardware store were good places to get supplies for farm projects and I didn’t have to wait for delivery unless the store was out of something. It’s fun to get out and go places. Trips to the city could includes a stop at the mall or Lowes, eating out, going to a museum. Now and then I’ll order something from the internet, but for most things I prefer to actually see what I am buying.

I use Amazon quite a bit too. Kindle Fire, with books.

You would be amazed at the range of the selection at Amazon.

I have even purchased a new hood for a car through them, around half the price as charged from a dealer and even got Free Shipping. (I am a “Prime” member which yes I do pay a yearly fee for, I believe around 75$ a year, but that is easily recouped and more with the benefits..)
I purchased a headlight assembly which the dealer wanted $500 for, for $145 shipped. And if something is wrong it is a easy fix when dealing with Amazon. I usually always try to make my purchases from Amazon and not a 3rd party seller..
As a prime member I receive among other benefits free 2 day shipping on most items that are fulfilled by Amazon. (most stuff) and can get 1 day shipping on most items for $3.99 per item if wanted. ( That means the item shows up at my door in 1 business day. Like the very next day.)
I find it very handy.

If I download music I do it at Amazon, they are considerably less expensive than iTunes. .99 verses 1.29 for most.

My life would be considerably more a pain in the butt with out Amazon..
I don’t know about anyone else but I have no desire to get out and fight the hoards of idiots unless I have to. Let UPS or fedex do the leg work..

I would say at least 8 times out of 10 if I want to make a purchase Amazon will have the best or comparable price, and much of the time it is a considerable savings.

I rate Amazon an A+.

There is that, but AP’s rationale and conclusions are incorrect. Amazon is not the only place online that sells and delivers goods. I purchase a good amount of items from online sellers, but rarely from Amazon And as someone else noted, conservative folks tend to like to “kick the tires” IRL as opposed to buying sight unseen.
Also, Amazon’s stock is not limited to just iToys (::cough:: books? ::cough::) so the “tech ignorance” conclusion doesn’t fly. I would think tech ignorance would lie in not being aware the online shopping experience has expanded just a wee bit since 1998.

Since there’s really no overlap between what the Green Room used to be and what it is now, I don’t see why they had to replace it rather than add to it. I especially miss J.E. Dyer’s insightful analysis of foreign affairs. With her military background and perspective, she brought something to the table that no one else has.

I like the new feature too but I don’t think it should have replaced the old Green Room. Bring back the old writers for the Green Room and call it something else. Or call it the Green Room and call this something else. But I do like it. Its like a halfway point between Headlines and blog posts. A link with a very brief commentary, like a long form twitter. Very cool. But bring back the old Green Room too. Oh, and while you’re at it, get rid of facebook commenting. Its a feeding ground for trolls and fake accounts.

But yeah I see your point about Amazon. I’m on there all the time reading book reviews and those pesky addictive discussion threads…and who could even calculate the fortune I have spent there.

I took a class recently from a web marketing specialist who said that older people use Bing more. There are less people who use it, but they are older and have more money than younger people who lean towards using google.

Older people use Bing because they buy cheap Windows PCs from Best Buy, and the built-in browser (IE) pushes Bing like nobody’s business.

My kids and I have this discussion often. “Dad, look at this amazing new service.” “What’s it good for?” 20 minutes of confusing discussion ensue during which they cannot present a single argument explaining WHY I need or want the “cool new service”.

Yes, I’m a caricature of the un-hip elderly fellow who doesn’t get it. That’s because I don’t need it. I don’t need it. Simple.

(PS. I’m an A+ and Network+ certified PC & Networking technician and I have a degree in programming [c#]. I understand the underlying bits & bytes more than my kids do. They don’t understand the concept of satisfaction with what one has and what one is comfortable with.)

(PSS. I use Newegg, TigerDirect, and EBay a lot more than Amazon.)

It’s just another poll that means nothing, like the others.

Even funnier is that Democrats apparently don’t like the History Channel. I guess REAL history–as opposed to revisionist history–doesn’t play well with them.

The History Channel is all aliens and Pawn Stars now. No real history. Plus their religious history that they add in once in a while is all horrible stuff.

I like that Clorox is across all three. America likes her bleach.

Look at the scores though. I’ll bet amazon would rank about the same level in terms of score for the GOP as for independents and democrats, which would rank them perhaps in the top 15.

Indeed, #10 on the Republican list would score at #3 for Dems and #1 for Indys. I guess it must be that we Republicans love us some heartless corporations!
