Specifics of Allred’s ‘October surprise’ revealed, Trump’s hinted at

posted at 10:02 am on October 24, 2012 by

New information about Gloria Allred’s alleged dirt on GOP candidate Mitt Romney has been made available. RadarOnline.com reports that the high-profile civil rights attorney is in a courtroom outside of Boston this morning, where she will attempt to have a gag order lifted on a sealed case involving the former Massachusetts governor.

The article quotes a “source close to the situation” as saying:

The Boston Globe is headed to court … for an emergency hearing in an attempt to obtain a court order to unseal the sworn testimony given by Mitt Romney in a prior court case and to lift a gag order so that the parties can speak about Romney. Gloria Allred will be in court representing one of the parties in the case,

The emergency hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. EST. The nature of venue, the Norfolk Probate and Family Court in Canton, Mass., introduces tantalizing possibilities. Did Romney father a “love child”? Did he beat a widow or orphans out of a rightful claim to an inheritance? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, fresh speculation about Donald Trump’s Obama-damaging revelation suggests that it, too, will be grist for family court. MailOnline cites a tweet by Douglas Kass, a financial guru who appears on CNBC’s talk show Squawkbox where Trump is often a commentator. In the tweet posted on Tuesday, Kass wrote:

High above the Alps my Gnome has heard that Donald Trump will announce that he has unearthed divorce papers between the Prez and his wife.

The article’s author, Daniel Bates, ran Kass’s hunch by a Trump spokeswoman, Holly Lorenzo, who was willing to confirm only that “the Donald” is going to announce his bombshell on his Twitter and Facebook accounts today. “I don’t know what time it will be, that’s all I know,” Lorenzo added.

The MailOnline piece notes in a sidebar that “the Obamas have in the past admitted going through a rocky patch.” It also cites a passage from Ed Klein’s Obama tell-all The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House claiming that Michelle Obama prepared the divorce papers in 2000 following her his husband’s disastrous failed attempt to win a House seat in Chicago.

“After he lost miserably,” Bates writes, “the future First Lady was supposedly disgusted that her husband had put at risk their ‘stable and secure future.’” Bates also notes that, according to Klein, the Obamas’ marriage was “on the rocks” and that Barack Obama was so depressed that some of his friends feared he was suicidal.

Did Romney father a “love child”?

Heh. When did HotAir become MSNBC? Is Howard angling for a job at the Enquirer?

Cripes, is Donald Trump’s thing really the divorce papers? If so, epic nothingburger. Give it up, Donald.

I expect such idiocy from Gloria Allred. You, Donald, should know better.

Please tell me you have something better than this.

If true, says nothing good about Michelle’s character. But really, it’s meaningless. Every marriage goes through a rocky patch. And these days, sadly, divorce is an easy option that some jump to right away. It doesn’t matter one wit to me. I just want the marxist out of the White House.

Is Howard angling for a job at the Enquirer?

Funny you should ask. Many years ago, when I was just starting out, I interviewed for a job with the National Enquirer. An offer or work was never tendered, and I had made up my mind after the interview not to accept if it had been. How’d you know?

No wonder Moochelle was only proud of her country when Barack was elected President.

If this is the Trump card, it probably won’t affect the election, but what would Obama do if Romney wins anyway?

If this is Trump’s surprise, does he really think it will be effective in changing people’s votes? It seems about as likely to inspire sympathy for Obama than to detract from him.

I am as disgusted that Trump would do this as I am of Alred.

Trump seems smart enough to realize that his own marital history doesn’t make him one to point the finger of shame at the Obamas for considering divorce — surely there has to be some bit of information in the papers that he thinks qualifies as a ‘surprise’ to voters.

My thoughts exactly. Does Trump really think that the revelation is going to help Romney? Trump should just shut up and butt out.

PatriotGal2257 on October 24, 2012 at 11:17 AM

If this is Trump’s play, it only works as a sleazy counter to whatever effort Allred’s trying up in Boston.

Throwing it out there alone would be more likely to push undecided voters towards Obama due to the dirty politics nature of the charge. Throwing it out there at the same time Gloria’s trying to throw some allegations about Romney and (allegedly) his involvement in a divorce/custody case may allow it to serve as a buffer, in that the liberals in the big media can’t report on whatever Mitt did or didn’t do and turn it into The Most Important Story in the History of the World for the next 14 days without having to also deal with the Obama allegation, because The Donald is too high-profile a personality to ignore.

Actually, if you dig into the details… Romney testified in the messy divorce of a friend of his, the CEO of Staples. Gloria has nothing and is hoping there is something here.

However, I’m laughing right now… The president of our company helped an employee through his own messy divorce. Think there was anything there since our president is a woman? No. It was done to help out a valued employee within a company where people care for one another.

Only liberals assume that everything revolves around sex.

If Gloria is successful at unsealing the records (of a public divorce trial), she’s going to get the legal equivalent of Al Capone’s vault…

Compare these two non-stories (with the repulsive characters pushing them) to the real story that Obama watched while our ambassador and Americans died in Libya. It is hard to imagine why I would care at all about old divorces (or old drug charges, old anger, etc., etc.) compared to the despicable cowardice of the President in the Benghazi attack.

Vote for me or Michelle will divorce me?

I agree.

dominigan on October 24, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Grasping at straws for both of them. Each of these cases are ancient history and all the sordid details are already out there.

Nothingburgers on both sides….

I think it just proves that neither side has a lock on people who have long over-extended their 15 minutes of fame.

More interesting will be to see how the media plays it. If they pump up Allred and downplay Trump, it won’t go well with the public. If they play them both down the middle, they’ll both be ignored within one news cycle.

Anyway, I appreciate you keeping us updated. You read the fluff so we don’t have to, and I salute you.
