Baseball Open Thread: Game #7 ~ Winner Meets Detroit in World Series

Game # 6 — Giants 6, Cards 1

Those stubborn Giants just refuse to quit.  Last night Ryan Vogelsong threw for seven strong innings allowing one run on five hits.  Meanwhile, the Giants chased Cardinals’ starter Chris Carpenter after four innings, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits, (and one critical error that kept the flood gates open).  St. Louis finally scored their lone run of the game in the top of the 6th, with a Beltran double and a Craig single.

In tonight’s finale, the Giants will send Matt Cain to the mound against the Cardinals’ game # 3 winner Kyle Lohse.  The Cards beat Cain and the Giants in that game 3-1, while the Giants actually out-hit the Cards, 9-6.  In the game Matt Carpenter, (subbing for Carlos Beltran) stroked a two-run homer in the 3rd inning, and the Cards hung on for the win, while the Giants left 11 men on base.

You have to know there’s not one pitcher on these two team’s rosters that can’t be called upon in this winner-take-all contest.

Game Time: 5 PM PACIFIC, (8 PM ET)

Tonight’s Line-ups:

Weather Forecast: Mostly cloudy with chances of light rain.

Just got home, changing, and then heading out to the park. Hoping for the best…

End of 2nd…Cain drives in a run with two outs…Giants up 2-0. Top of the order coming up for Cards.

End of 3rd….Giants pound out five more runs in a marathon inning…..up 7-0. Still way to early to count this one done.

Giants are hitting – but errors and miscues have really hurt the Cardinals tonight, and in the past three games overall. Scutaro and Sandoval continue to pound the ball for the Giants.

What debate? The Giants are going to the World Series!

JeffB. on October 23, 2012 at 1:27 AM

it could have been worse for the Cards – it could have been raining.

Wasn’t that a downpour!!!? I really think that with two outs and down by nine runs, both the Giants and the Cards were content on just getting the game over. Had the Cards been within a few runs, the field would have been covered, imo.

Congrats to both teams for the NL display—Cards just couldn’t stop the G-momentum. Now go beat them Tigers!

Rovin on October 23, 2012 at 11:53 AM

The Cards got unmasked.

They only got this far because of a stupid ump in Atlanta, and the Nats sat their best pitcher.

Moesart on October 23, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Well it’s a shame we had rain right when the Giants did that at home but everyone is happy and it was still a great night.

Not sure what happened to the parrots… I was expecting more from them but there was no life whatsoever.

Now the Tigers… welcome to San Francisco!!
