Gloria Allred rumored to have dirt that will sink Romney campaign

posted at 12:19 pm on October 21, 2012 by

Does outspoken Obama supporter Gloria Allred really have an “October surprise” in the works that will sabotage Mitt Romney’s run for the White House, or is the rumor, first published by the Drudge Report, all wet? Inquiring minds want to know.

The story, circulated by RadarOnline.com, contains an Oct. 18 tweet by Matt Drudge reading:

Here she comes. Hearing Gloria Allred out there again, about to make a move. After all, it’s her time of the campaign. Team O at the ready!!

Another website named The Red Side of Life, Conservative Musings from New York is quoted as having written:

Gloria Allred Prepares Anti-Mitt Strike. You Can STOP Her Now! (action!) Don’t underestimate Gloria Allred’s ability to inflict damage. The media will ‘eat up’ anything she feeds them and turn it into an endless scandal. Recall she took down Cain and RINO Whitman with NO EVIDENCE. We’re doing too well to risk ‘an Allred.’ She can be stopped, but it will take action on our behalf.

Allred has refused to comment on the claim, noting curtly, “I don’t discuss meetings with potential clients.”

RadarOnline.com previously reported Allred’s putative role in the unseating of Meg Whitman, who ran for governor of California in 2010. Allred represented, a former Whitman housekeeper named Nicky Diaz, who alleged that she was terminated because she was an illegal immigrant. Ultimately the election went to to Democrat Jerry Brown, who has since passed a state version of the DREAM Act.

Allred was a delegate for President Obama at the DNC in North Carolina last summer.

She has found a woman who used to work for Mitt Romney – who now lives in a large binder.

The Nicky Diaz thing did not sink Meg Whitman’s campaign, she was already toast when it happened. There will never be another Republican elected statewide in California. It’s a socialist state now.

rockmom on October 21, 2012 at 12:34 PM

Oh, please! Allred routinely falls flat on her face. That Brown won in a heavily donk state had nothing to do with Allred’s shtick, which became old at least a decade ago.

This actually scares me. It doesn`t have to be true anymore to cause damage. There goes my nerves for the next two weeks. :(

I agree with both of you (which is why I qualified the story as “putative”), but you’re missing the comedic gold punch line: Whitman fires a housekeeper because the woman is in the country illegally, but is punished at the ballot box by the citizens of CA as though she had done something wrong.

Howard Portnoy on October 21, 2012 at 12:47 PM

The only reason that Allred is “holding back” is that she’s trying to figure a way to release a lie without being sued for everything that she has.
She routinely lies and slanders people…creates a huge todo that throws a monkey wrench into a campaign…and then lets things die a ‘natural death’. Then, she has another book ghost-written for her and makes out like a bandit.
Her problem this time is that Mitt will expose her as the liar she is, sue the crap out of her, ruin her financially and turn her into a nation-wide laughing stock.
Mitt may be a Mormon and a nice guy – but I do believe that he also knows how to get payback.

Solaratov on October 21, 2012 at 12:52 PM

I don’t know what she could possibly have. But whatever it is can probably be countered with Anita Dunn and Obama’s “toxic work environment” an other women complaining of the WH work environment.

Ah California. This is what passes for sanity in a state going bankrupt whose legislature spends its time worrying about plastic bags.

What was interesting about the accusations about Meg Whitman was that Meg didn’t do anything wrong. It turned out her housekeeper was illegal. Meg had asked her if she was legal and filed all the proper paperwork. Meg got a notice that something wasn’t right, asked for more documents and the housekeeper provided them, but they were forgeries. Then, the housekeeper told Meg that she was illegal and Meg let her go. Whitman did not do a thing wrong, she complied with the law, but she was raked over the coals for it anyway.

What? Mitt ate cog au vin at a dinner party with rich people. Her face is the one that gives lawyers a bad rep.

Kissmygrits on October 21, 2012 at 1:03 PM

Could it be this old harpy have something on Paul not Mitt? That might cause people to have a problem voting R&R?
I sure hope this is just another distraction bho/team has thought up!

It doesn’t make any difference to me, we will be voting Tuesday for R&R and Curz!

I have it on good authority that Gloria Allred has a tape where you can explicitly hear Mitt Romney say “Gosh darn it all to heck, you guys!” Thus proving Mittens is a foul mouthed, intemperate misogynist.

An “effective” lie launched close enough to election day is all that counts. Don’t allow time for it to be either fact checked or rebutted.

I’ve felt all along that if the election is appearing to be close, Team BO will do something underhanded to regain the advantage – it’s their way.

Hypothetically, what would a slander lawsuit that alleges the lie cost someone the presidency look like?

Just from money spent on the campaign alone, you could easily claim over a billion in damages. IIRC, proving malicious intent (which would be easy in this case) can result in an award for treble damages. Would you be able to attach the media outlets that spread it without question, like in Curtis Publishing Co.?

FlareCorran on October 21, 2012 at 1:40 PM

She’s actually trying to figure out how to stay alive if she interjects herself into the mix.
The “clingers” will be out for blood and nothing can protect her.

rockmom on October 21, 2012 at 12:34 PM

Meg Whitman might not have won, who knows, but the polls show that other statewide races were affected, including Lt. governor and certainly Attornety General.
..
As far as I know, Nicky Diaz, an illegal immigrant criminal and liar is still living comfortably in the U.S.
..
She’s lucky I’m not Meg Whitman. With her resources, I would have hired private investigators to look into the criminal history of every illegal immigrant that lived within a mile of Nicky Diaz. She would have been shunned in her own illegal immigrant community.

MichaelGabriel on October 21, 2012 at 2:13 PM

If suing Alred’s smelly socks off is judged by the GOP campaign as being a good idea, you can be sure the suit has already been drafted and will be filed the moment she opens her filthy mouth.

Still, you have to wonder – don’t the Dims realize what devastation they have wrought in their party? Do they really want to finish themselves off this way?

Or do they actually believe that the American voter is still so stupid they would fall for a blatantly false last-minute stunt? That vile ambulance chaser has absolutely no credibility left.

timmytee on October 21, 2012 at 2:17 PM

But you can count on the lame-stream media to pounce on it and run 24/7 until election day.

If the 30 y.o. DUI story didn’t sink Bush, I do not see much short of proof Mitt is really Stalin’s son doing anything significant at this point.

Animal60 on October 21, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Yeah right, and maybe the Birthtards will sink the Obama campaign at the last minute.

Nothing more than last-minute slander by a wretched witch.

MelonCollie on October 21, 2012 at 4:05 PM

It is not a lie nor is it recent. According to Brietbart, this is simply a 20-year old retread story of Mitt advising women not to get abortions.

It will fall flat on its face as I have empirical knowledge that no woman regrets having a child while most regret getting an abortion.

It will also backfire because 0bama endorses partial birth abortion — a practice which is more barbaric than the ancient Chinese practice of leaving unwanted babies on rocks to die of exposure.

Like everything 0 has tried this election, in the end it is he who will lose votes.

StubbleSpark on October 21, 2012 at 4:10 PM

Actually Mitt could defuse the whole thing tomorrow by calling her out live during the debate.

If it turns out Romney ate a live baby raw, I’d still vote for him.

Matt Vespa on October 21, 2012 at 6:41 PM

The Romney campaign needs to have the woman he counseled appear right next to him within an hour of the attack, with her grown child by her side, supporting him and thanking him for helping her make the right decision and give birth to the child that she loves. Volleyball smash right to the face, game over.

Romney has a tight and disciplined team. He’s got it covered, one way or another.

Animal60 on October 21, 2012 at 3:33 PM

It didn’t prevent Bush from becoming president, but it certainly didn’t help. You may recall that that election was a little too close for comfort.

Of course, the fact that the DUI was reported a few days before the election was partly Bush’s own fault. He knew of his own DUI arrest and he could have revealed it long before the election.

StubbleSpark on October 21, 2012 at 4:10 PM

If that’s all, it wouldn’t even be worth it for Allred to bring it up. The people who are voting based on support for abortion are all voting for Obama already.

What would hurt Mitt much more would be if Allred could find some woman who claims Mitt recommended that she should have an abortion.

J.S.K. on October 21, 2012 at 7:08 PM

I think a sound strategy would be for all right outlets to “get ahead of the story” – by neutering it before it happens.

Whatever this slob has in line – simply tell everyone “Oh – we have it on good word the Allred will lie in the coming weeks about something – so be prepared for a huge lie to come out soon” Bombard the airwaves with her last 10 or so lies and follow ups by interviewing the liars she represented.

A surprise is only as good as he timing and nothing to do with content.

Odie1941 on October 21, 2012 at 8:09 PM

This is desperation incarnate. Obvious stunt will be seen as obvious obviousness by anyone with two brain cells to rub together. Let the Lamestreams blow the last molecular threads of their once-mighty reputations…it still won’t be enough.

squint on October 21, 2012 at 8:21 PM

Exactly. Do a Pre-emptive strike. Get on the news and have an Aldread countdown. She can cook up a lie and try to make her accusations 48-96 hours before the election so she can’t be fact checked.

seven on October 21, 2012 at 8:39 PM

The headline for this post is overly dramatic and not based on evidence. What is rumored is that the Obama supporter Gloria Alred is going to make accusations that the Obama campaign hopes will hurt Mitt. The blogger Portnoy has taken this to a sensationalistic level and is talking about “sinking” campaigns. This is just irresponsible and is giving Alred exactly what she wants.

I’m disappointed with the HotAir Greenroom.

It isn’t ancient. They still tie conscious little girls to chairs in dying rooms until they die of dehydration or let them starve out of laziness and lack of value for girls. But Joe and I don’t want to pass judgment…
