Joe Biden concedes middle class has been ‘buried’ last 4 years

posted at 12:21 pm on October 3, 2012 by

“We will bury you!” Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev said in 1956, referring to western “colonialism.” “We did bury you,” Vice President Joseph Biden said 56 years later, referring to the American middle class.

Although Biden, the living and breathing gaffe machine that is a heartbeat away from the presidency, tried to walk back his comment, it is out there. CBS News reports that Biden was speaking to about 1,000 people in Charlotte. His gift to the Republican campaign was wrapped in the myth that GOP challenger Mitt Romney, if elected, would cut taxes for millionaires and raise them for middle-class families. In reaction to that non-existent plan he said:

This is deadly earnest. How they can justify raising taxes on a middle class that has been buried the last four years? How in Lord’s name can they justify raising their taxes with these tax cuts? [Emphasis added]

If Biden’s boss had been standing by, he would have doubtless slapped his forehead and reminded Biden he had been running the country, and hence was responsible for the fortunes of the middle class, during the period when that vast segment of the populace was interred.

This is another BFD, and the opposition is all over it. Romeny tweeted that “the middle class has been buried the last 4 years, which is why we need a change in November.”

His running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, said at rally in Burlington, Iowa, that middle-class families have indeed been “buried” by Obama policies. These, he told the crowd, have stunted the recovery and economic growth, noting that a Romney presidency is the solution:

We need to stop digging by electing Mitt Romney the next president of the United States. Of course the middle class has been buried. They’re being buried by regulations; they’re being buried by taxes; they’re being buried by borrowing. They’re being buried by the Obama administration’s economic failures.

Former New Hampshire governor and Romney surrogate John Sununu echoed that sentiment. “Vice President Biden finally got something right,” he said, adding, “the middle class has been devastated under President Obama.”

In the meantime, a Rasmussen survey released on Wednesday find that 53% of likely voters view the election as a referendum on Obama’s policies.

So, in other words, we aren’t better off than we were 4 years ago. Thanks for the confirmation!

Why is it than when a normal person tells the truth it’s commendable, but when a politician tells the truth, it’s a gaffe? President Choom’s administration has been burying the middle class since he’s been elected.
