Pat Caddell: Media Have Become an “Enemy of the American people”

The Audacity of Corruption (h/t Babalu)

I want to talk about this Libyan thing, because we crossed some lines here. It’s not about politics. First of all we’ve had nine day of lies over what happened because they can’t dare say it’s a terrorist attack, and the press won’t push this. Yesterday there was not a single piece in The New York Times over the question of Libya. Twenty American embassies, yesterday, were under attack. None of that is on the national news. None of it is being pressed in the papers. If a President of either party—I don’t care whether it was Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton or George Bush or Ronald Reagan or George H. W. Bush—had a terrorist incident, and got on an airplane after saying something, and flown off to a fundraiser in Las Vegas, they would have been crucified! It would have been—it should have been the equivalent, for Barack Obama, of George Bush’s “flying over Katrina” moment. But nothing was said at all, and nothing will be said.

It is one thing to bias the news, or have a biased view. It is another thing to specifically decide that you will not tell the American people information they have a right to know, and I choose right now, openly, and this is—if I had more time I’d do all the names for it—but The New York Times, The Washington Post, or the most important papers that influence the networks, ABC, NBC, and, to a lesser extent—because CBS has actually been on this story, partly because the President of Libya appeared on [Bob Schieffer’s Face the Nation] and said, on Sunday, while [U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.] Susan Rice was out—the U.N. Ambassador has no portfolio on this matter—lying, said of the Secretary—you know why, notice the Secretary of State wasn’t out there doing this—was on national television, lying and promoting the White House line while the Libyan President, the very same moment, is saying “This is a premeditated attack.” Nobody has asked that question. This morning—take a look at The New York Times this morning, it’s a minor reference. Oh, now we’ve decided that it was a terrorist incident. But this is—that would have changed, that should change the politics.

This is not without accomplices, because the incompetence of the [Mitt] Romney campaign, which I said a week ago is the—my God!—the worst campaign in my lifetime, and the Republican establishment in general’s inability to fight, has allowed these things to happen in part because they don’t do it. But I want to go through two other quick points.

[Mohamed] Morsi and Egypt: The President of Egypt, we find out now, that his whole agenda has been getting the “Blind Sheikh” [Omar Abdel-Rahman], who’s responsible for the bombings of the World Trade Center in 1993, out of jail. Prison. I’ve been told specifically, by a member of the intelligence community that the White House and State Department are negotiating that now. They have now come out and denied it, but [Morsi] comes out, that they ordered—he’s the head of the Muslim Brotherhood! The American people know what they think of the Muslim Brotherhood: They are against them eleven to one, all right? And he’s the president of the Muslim Brotherhood, giving $2 billion to United States. He tells them—we had advance warning because they had said they were gonna do this, attack our embassy. The President—after the incident, after 48 hours, Mr. Morsi does nothing and says nothing—picks up the phone, calls him, and demands that they call it off. On Friday—last Friday, a week ago today—there was supposed to be a big demonstration. We thought that would be the big day—no, it disappeared, because Morsi called it off. But no press person has investigated this, just as no press person will go and ask the most obvious questions, when there are really good stories here, good media stories, and good news stories. They are in the tank and this is a frightening thing.

Read every word.

White House officials dispute that the press secretary, Jay Carney, cited the anti-Muhammad video as the cause of the attack in Benghazi. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence now says it, not the White House is responsible for the Obama administration’s initial claims that the deadly assault grew from a spontaneous protest against an anti-Islam video.

The unusual statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence appeared to have two goals: updating the public on the latest findings of the investigation into the assault, and shielding the White House from a political backlash over its original accounts.

Sad.

Caddell, a liberal, articulates this better than any conservative on radio, tv or the internet.

No wonder we’re getting our butts handed to us…

What the media is doing is an offense. It is blasphemous. But it is in the name of Obama so, his name be praised.

onomo on September 29, 2012 at 12:07 PM

How is it possible for them to stay in business if they are the enemy of the American people? It is the American people paying their salaries through advertisement dollars is it not?

The American people are in fact the enablers of this. They are not willing to hold companies to account for what they do. It is as easy as turning off the TV, changing the channel. Going to a reputable online news company.

Instead they keep watching the entertainment shows that underwrite these “media” agencies. Who among you have stopped watching tv stations that promote this propaganda? Have you told your friends which shows are supporting the propaganda and had them stop watching as well?

It’s a bloody fiasco that’s what it is…

The media is not just in O’s back pocket but front and center on their knees worshipping this damn Louse in da House…

To respond to astonerii, I not only talk the talk but I walk the walk too and have not since last year watched the alphabets, I simply refuse.

Oops, I did watch Fringe the other night…

I do however watch Fox News… and C-SPAN…

I haven’t bought a newspaper in 4 years…

Yes, this should be in the headlines, as more people comment it may…

How much more proof is required to demonstrate that we have already lost America?

Here’s a hypothetical – Several days before the US elections, Israel hits Iran. Iran retaliates. Or, perhaps several days before the US elections, Tel Aviv is vaporized (hell, no one actually knows if Iran has a bomb yet, for real). Think we’ll hold the elections? I’m not so sure.

I do not see how they can stop them. It would have to be closer to home.

This is treasonous and seditious. If the WH conducts business this way then I say that Obama should be held personally responsible and tried by a jury of his peers. If found guilty, suffer the most extreme penalty without mitigation.

The President AND highest elected office in the land has now been dishonored and it’s current occupant should be held accountable.

Elections don’t cut it anymore, Ed !

DevilsPrinciple on September 29, 2012 at 6:53 PM

Yeah, and bloody shame the so many Americans still get their news from MSNBC and CNN. What would the polls read if this weren’t the case? I’d be willing to bet that the race wouldn’t be this close.

Romney needs to go for the jugular. This “above the fray” crap is NOT going to work. Bite, bite hard, and give ‘em rabies whilst you’re about it. Yeah, and I’m a “cold, calculating” libertarian. Deal with it.

If it is indeed true that certain press rooms have become a weapon threatening the liberty of the American people then they should be “fired”.

Gr8seezersghost on September 30, 2012 at 10:22 AM

Thanks, Fausta. This is front page worthy.

Pat’s right, it’s a war between the corrupt party and the stupid party, and the corrupt party is the only one fighting.

With Øbama’s record, this election was ours to lose. If we wuss it away… wuss it away yet another time… I will be looking at a third party candidate if they run another establishment candidate in 2016. I will be burning bridges to the GOP. I have finally had enough.

petefrt on September 30, 2012 at 12:07 PM

Pat Caddell is a courageous American. He’s also a true, old style, JFK type Democrat, not what the Democratic Party has become today and its this difference in core ideology, between true liberal and modern progressive, that puts him frequently at odds with his own party. He is consistently fighting for the soul of the Democratic Party and desperate to save it from itself. He is not a Republican by any stretch of the imagination, although we would be fortunate to have him if he were.

Caddell has been called “The Cassandra of the Democratic Party” because he has warned people like Jimmy Carter and others many times that their policy or approach was fatally flawed, and they ignored him, and events proved Caddell had been right in his assessment all along. Like Cassandra of Troy, who stood at the gates and warned her countrymen “Beware Greeks who bear gifts.”, warning them not to bring the Trojan Horse into the city, Caddell warns us of the corruption and cronyism of modern journalism, and the terrible cost to our freedoms it bears us. Why does he do this? Because he puts the welfare of the nation above his own party affiliation. The corruption and cronyism and arrogance that has the press now deciding WHAT the American people may know and what we may not is a threat to our freedoms and the nation. He recognizes this.

Make no mistake, Caddell is taking on, not only the press with this address, but also the rank and rife corruption and cronyism that is our federal government, and not just in its relationship with the press.

If we ignore him, we do so at our own peril and, ultimately, the expense of our freedom.

Pat caddell is absolutely right.

Worst run-on sentence I’ve ever read. Completely incoherent.

Thanks, Fausta. This is front page worthy.

Not without significant re-write and editing, it’s not.

Note:
The paragraphs starting with “It is one thing to bias the news,” and ending at “this is a frightening thing” are all part of the transcript. You can see the formatting at my original post. For some reason the HTML doesn’t “take” in the Green Room platform.

Fausta Wertz on October 1, 2012 at 9:59 AM

Pat Caddell is a democrat, and so he cannot get into the mind of republican senators and representatives or candidates, and that is the pity.

His work is very good, and his pointing out that the Washington d.c. party insiders line their pockets, make their deals…and I contend, have sometimes more interest in predicting something BAD, correctly than what is in the interest of the rest of the grass roots conservatives is telling. They are the people who started running Romney’s campaign down before it was out of the gate, it wasn’t THIS enough, it wasn’t THAT enough and influencing the MSM that way, but also the people who rile up the fears the MSM introduces that keep the republicans in Washington from doing anything. It is bad, when Fox News gets its source material from listening to the MSM.

Why didn’t the republicans hold up Obama’s funding, he doesn’t have a budget, and he hasn’t had one for 4 years? Here is the answer Pat, they can’t get thier message out, the MSM blocks it and presents it twisted with them to blame for Obama’s rotten economy, they are the ones holding everything up, and no blame is put on Harry Reid and Obama, and they have no way to reach the ordinary people with that message once the MEGA phones at the MSM tell the people the wrong thing. What are they supposed to do, give the MSM stations money for commercials on their air to say they are being misrepresented?

And Pat, the big MegaPhones don’t shut up about racisthomophobeunfairpolluting republicans no matter what they do. Boehner has staged events on the Capitol Steps to have them ignored by the press, the Tea Party came to Washington, Obama flew over them in his helecopter and the media did not mention the Tea Partiers, and Obama said he had not heard of them, then they started creating an Occupy persona and labeling the Tea Partiers racists and terrorists.

So, Pat does not live where we live, where we are accused of wanting Women to Die every fifteen minutes, and that he thinks Romney is running a bad campaign, it is because he has not covered it himself…which is what we all have to do.

Pat does have a point, there are a lot of people on the republican side, pointing their finger at the Romney campaign and whining, who could spend their own money and open their mouth and start saying something, but they would rather be right (prediction wise) than win.
