Breaking: Biden will remain on Democratic ticket

posted at 2:51 pm on August 16, 2012 by

Call it a “war not declared” story if you like, but the scuttlebutt over the purpose of a closed-door meeting in the Oval Office this morning has proven to be idle speculation. The gaffe-prone Joe Biden will remain President Obama’s running mate and Hillary Clinton will stay in her post as Secretary of State at least until the election.

The official pron0uncement was made by White House Press Secretary Jay Carney at today’s press briefing. Carney told reporters that the matter of Biden’s role in the campaign was “settled a long, long time ago,” seeming to balk at the suggestion that the meeting was anything other than a routine confab—which strains credulity.

Obama was asked about Biden’s off-color “chains” comment on Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday and expressed “mild frustration” at how “Biden’s ‘phrasing’ on the campaign trail can distract from his message.” Ultimately, and predictably, Obama said he blames the media, not Biden, for this phenomenon, adding that “the country’s not as divided or obsessed with gaffes or some stray remark as Washington is.” And if you believe that he believes that, then he’s got a bridge he’s willing to sell you. His reference to Romney’s having once put his dog in a crate on the roof of the family station wagon on a trip to Canada has been a fixture of his stump speeches, even finding its tortuous way into comments he made defending his green energy initiative.

In his comments to the press, Carney proved he can be just as snide and mean-spirited as his boss, gratuitously smirking:

And while I appreciate, I have great admiration for and respect for and a long relationship with John McCain but one place I would not go for advice on vice presidential running mates is to Senator McCain.

As for Biden remaining on the ticket, it’s hard to see how that decision doesn’t provide aid and comfort to “the enemy.” With 82 days left to Election Day, one is safe in assuming that Biden will commit at minimum 164 more “phrases that distract from the campaign.”

I don’t know. In the UK, if the PM reaffirms his confidence in you, you’re as good as gone.

Snear at Palin all you want, Carney, but she effectively shut down your plan B.

This means nothing. Biden can still drop out for “health” reasons. Which is the way it would go down anyway. In that case, such a statement only strengthens Obama’s position.

No one will believe it.

Seriously. Big whoop. Did anyone actually expect Biden to get dumped? Drudge needs to cut back on the caffeine.

This is like 8 years ago when Tingles and the rest of the MSM all of a sudden became convinced that Bush was going to drop Cheney from the ticket for his 2004 reelection bid.

Biden needs to stay where he is. Our side has enough trouble when even KNOWING the adversary.

She played them all. She rushed O into making a statement he probably didn’t want to make about Biden – really why would Obama want to bring the focus round to ol’ Slow Joe – and better, she made Obama play right into the leftoid perspective of Palin as a dumb hick and turned it against them. “She’s so stupid, she’s advising us to pick Hillary! Ha! We’ll show her who’s boss!”

Now they have to defend Joe as the great VP everyone knows he’s not. RR must be delighted, Ryan’s already playing it up.

Mitt owes Sarah a big box of chocolates.

Good! Biden is a gaffee machine.

nazo311 on August 17, 2012 at 1:20 AM

Ah, I love a good strong cup of gaffee every morning.

I find it interesting that this only happened after Hillary turned down the position.

My bad eyes… I thought the headline in the Green Room sidebar was “Breaking: Biden will remain on Democratic toilet”

I guess that also works.
