Gay rights organization to stage ‘kiss-in’ in front of Chick-Fil-A

posted at 3:10 pm on July 26, 2012 by

If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then the way to an ostensibly unenlightened man’s heart must be through his gallbladder. That seems to be the message of Equality Illinois, a gay rights group that plans to protest fast food chain against Chick-Fil-A’s opposition to gay marriage by staging same-sex “kiss-ins” outside franchises.

In addition to the blatantly in-your-face smooch-athons, CBS Chicago reports that the group has also designated Aug. 1 an “Eat for Love Day.” Activists are urging Chicagoans to eat at a local restaurant that supports LGBT rights and “is unafraid to show its support for equality for everyone.”

Has fighting fire with fire has ever accomplished anything other than a larger conflagration? That is assuming, for starters, that the fire-with-fire analogy is appropriate to this situation, which seems more like one in which a person complains that his neighbor is playing music too loud, to which the neighbor responds by spitefully bumping up the volume.

For those unacquainted with Chick-Fil-A’s “original sin,” the dustup harks back to a company profile published on July 16 at the Christian news site Baptist Press. In it, Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said, “We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

The story soon went viral, prompting supporters of gay rights in the liberal media to dig for other “damning” quotes to hang around Cathy’s neck. They found the transcript of a radio interview he gave in June on the The Ken Coleman Show. In it he said:

I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say ‘we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.

It is no secret that the view Cathy espouses is also held by many Christians and protected by the First Amendment. Predictably, the gay community was vexed by the comments. But rather than demonstrate tolerance for opposing views—a virtue that gays of all people should cherish—they mounted a petition directed at universities and malls that host Chick-Fil-A restaurants. In it, they ask prospective signers to tell Dan Cathy “that hate has no place in a business.” But aren’t their actions just a demonstration of their own hatred for Cathy and his beliefs?

See, their hate is right; Chick-fil-A’s hate is evil.

These people are only making a vast number of Christians and those who hold the 1st dear, not feel warm and fuzzy about them ONE BIT! Me thinks WE outnumber THEM!

But, they are doing their 1st also, lets see who’s 1st wins?

If the kiss-ins involve two hot lesbians, then I’m gonna git me some mor chikin.

The Rogue Tomato on July 26, 2012 at 3:28 PM

IMO, the best way to deal with this would be to invite the press, then give each kissing couple a free meal.

Reno_Dave on July 26, 2012 at 3:31 PM

From a few comments here, starting to sound like the token Chicago Chik-fil-A will be crowded on Aug 1, and I hope all the suburban ones are, too.

Yes, yes and more yes. These gay activists are showing what true intolerance is. This is all about power and their desire to force others to accept their views, or else.

Except that opinion isn’t “hate”. Attempting to purposely destroy someone or someone’s business just because you don’t agree with their opinion, is.

I am glad the homosexual groups are going to do this. It will remind some people who may have forgotten the “in-your-face” sexual activity that was very prevalent in the 70′s/80′s among the homosexual groups wanting to expose everyone to their form of “values”, which consisted mainly of drag queens and people in leather chaps doing disgusting things to each other . That is, until they discovered that that wasn’t exactly helping their “cause”. They’ve toned that down a bit(except in some places), and now their new trick is to make themselves look just like “every other family”.
Maybe this “old tactic” will remind people of what they are really about and all they have – sex.

Dang, I really wish there was a Chick-Fil-A around here. I am not even sure we have one in the state(WI). But if there was one, I would walk right through them, order my big order of chicken, and walk right back out through them with it, smiling all the way.

You raise an interesting point, which I would take a step further. I submit that the only hate on display is on the part of the gay community. What Dan Cathy is expressing is disapproval that arises out of religious teachings. I read a number of quotes by him in preparing this article, and in none of them were there expressions of hatred, bitterness, or resentment. All three are on display in the reaction of the gay community.

Actually, on second reading, I haven’t taken Sterling Holobyte’s point a step further—just amplified on it.

Yep. Most conservatives(Christian or otherwise) I know don’t really care what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms, contrary to what the left would like people to believe. And that attitude is actually what has permitted progressive/liberals to ride roughshod over us, by taking advantage of that innate tolerance that conservatives possess.

Does that mean we should be just as intolerant, hateful and spiteful as they are? No. But we all need to be vigilant and recognize the people who will use our tolerance against us.

they can direct all the protest they want at mall, but it looks like Chick-Fil-A is following Walgreens new model and abandoning the mall store in favor of free standing stores.

RonK on July 26, 2012 at 7:33 PM

How do they know which restaurants support gay rights is what I want to know? Is it the decor that tips them off? Or the names they give the cocktails? Come on libs, you have your racist dog whistles, please pass out the gay ones so we can stay in step.

This is just SO stupid. I can hear Suzy with 2 Mommies 15 yrs from now looking at old pix of her “parents” and asking, “okay, so you were protesting a chicken sandwich?”

I propose an All-Day Eating Meeting in front of their smoochy show. Let the main course and all other dishes be based on the mighty mighty pinto bean. Bring yer own fans.

Teh Ghey is so brave makin out in front of that Mosque, and then marching over to NOI HQ right up in the face of Louis Farrakhan.

All that bravery will make them hungry – someone should bring them a delicious Chicken sandwich & fresh lemonade for their brave journey.

Dudes smooching and chicken sammiches?

That’s almost worth the trip to the mall!

Grab a few thousand surplus smokebombs and a couple of those big ‘barn fans’. See how inclined they are to smooch in a cloud of colored smoke, and if asked say you’re just celebrating the 4th a little late.

But rather than demonstrate tolerance for opposing views—a virtue that gays of all people should cherish

The homosexual advocacy movement has never been about tolerance. It has always been about their behavior being validated as good and positive and their specialness as human beings. They want approval for what they do, not tolerance.

(BTW, go look up the word “tolerance” in two different dictionaries – one current one, and one from pre-1970 or so. You will notice the definition has shifted from “putting up with something you don’t like” to “willingness to recognize and respect the beliefs or practices of others”.)

Before my wife and I became ‘vegans’, Chick Fil A was one of our favorite ‘eating out’ dinner destinations. Although I no longer eat chicken, they still have one of the best cole slaws I’ve ever eaten and I love their carrot salad.

Have you considered contacting CFa regarding opening a franchise yourself? Part of the “hate-filled” attitude of Truett Cathy – the man who started the chain – is that he wants every restaurant owner to be successful. From what I’ve read their training is extensive and their assistance to franchise holders is second to none.

Com’ on Sterling. Wisconsin is waiting for that delicious chicken sandwich…

oldleprechaun on July 27, 2012 at 11:47 AM

Couple of quick observations:

1. With regular, not overly religious nor overly moralizing Americans bringing their children to Chick-fil-A only to have to cover said kids’ eyes because of the freak show going on across the street, and then explain the perversion, these homofascists are only going to hurt their cause.

2. It is surreal that even people on the conservative side find it necessary to qualify that there is no discrimination or hatred against people whose only differentiating characteristic is that their entire life revolves around a deviant sexual act. I wonder if we’ll see conservatives making the same qualifications about pedophiles in 20 years. After all, B4U-ACT is already using the homofascist playbook to normalize the behavior of pedophiles.

Nothing serves up support for “gay rights” more than a bunch of guys kissin each other in front of the local Chick-Fil-A.

After all, it’s so normal . . .
