Viral shock video shows teen mother beating her 10-month-old baby

posted at 7:42 pm on May 12, 2012 by

With another Mother’s Day comes a sobering reminder that not everyone is cut out for the rewarding, if ultimately challenging, job of raising a child. The 18-year-old Malaysian woman captured in a video that has gone viral is way beyond merely lacking the parenting skills needed to care for her 10-month-old infant.

In the video, which carries a warning of graphic violence, the mother can be seen striking the crying baby with a pillow, slapping the child with her open hand, pinching its arms and torso, and kicking it.

The Blaze.com reports that the mother has been sent to prison for her actions and that the baby is in foster care and alleged to be doing well, though that optimistic picture should be tempered by a healthy dose of skepticism. A number of reports have been published that suggest that extreme physical abuse leaves lasting emotional scars, even when the punishment is meted out in infancy.

The video, which has received close to 1.2 million hits in the three days since it was uploaded to the Internet, is painful to watch. Liz Klimas, who posted a link at The Blaze.com, quotes one Stephen Boos of Baystate Medical Center’s Family Advocacy Center in Springfield  Massachusetts, as observing:

I’ve seen so much worse than that—regularly—and then there‘s so much that we don’t see. So this is not uncommon in any way … It’s very common in our society.

A question that arose for Klimas also occurred to me as I watched the video for the first time on YouTube. It is why the individual filming the 4-plus minutes of systematic violence elected not to intercede on the infant’s behalf.

That’s heartbreaking. But who is the idiot filming it?

In this case it is Malaysia — but it does happen here quite a lot.

During 25-yrs in big city Law Enforcement which has also included years of Federal liaison assignments work I thought I had seen and heard it all — then along comes a cell phone video of a mother and/or father beating the hell out of their kid(s) or abusing them in some fashion that is certain to psychologically and/or physically scar the child for life. I have no clue as to why someone would want to video it much less video it and do nothing to stop the abuse. None of the people I’ve ever interviewed could or would ever say why. Not one. Psychiatrists have a thousand explanations for it and it’s always some psychobabble that gets the perp(s) off easy unless they’re repeat offenders.

In this case the video somehow made it to the public domain but it happens here in the U.S. way too often to be considered uncommon. That is true.

I read in the You Tube comments that the video was taken by a friend of the mothers who had seen abuse before and took the recording to the police that day and the mother was arrested.
I was interested in a translation but couldn’t find one.

but… but… it’s gay “marriage” that’s the biggest threat to the family, children, and western civilization…

empathy-less abusive parents lead to empathy-less abusive children or perpetual victims with no sense of self and no boundaries -desensitized to and making excuses for violence , incapable of removing themselves and their children from sadly often life threatening situations. the cycle of abuse goes hand in hand with generational poverty and children having children.

The “filmer” was making sure she documented the beating so the mother would go to jail. In the long run, that did more good than interfering with this particular incident.

Actually they are a very big threat. Not the biggest, we have other issues, but ignoring one just because it is not the biggest is a failure many long gone dead cultures did.

While this is horrific, imagine the child being sexually molested. Gays, as a group, are far higher risk to children than any other group not directly already classified as pedophiles through conviction. Add into that, that when a child is in a house that is not of their own, they are significantly more at risk for not just this physical abuse, but sexual abuse as well. A gay couple by default will have at least one adult in the home that is not the parent of the child.

Spin it how you want, anyone with any brains and any information knows that gay couples are a threat to our society. History shows it to be so.

LOL

Not surprised to see your name at the bottom of that preposterous rant. You should move to Iran, where you will be in like-minded company.

Ha. Thanks for the laugh, homophobe.

Actually they are a very big threat.

Why? Are you afraid you might be into some butt piracy?

You’re too funny.

Using words you do not understand again? Typical of your type. I am no more a homophobe than you are. I understand that the celebration of gay couples is part and parcel to the culture of death that many on the left. Are allies to such great dreamers as Adolph Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Stalin, Heinrich, Thomas Robert Malthus and others who disdain life, particularly human life, enjoy your company in hell.

enjoy your company in hell.

I’m so glad you’ve completely eradicated sin from your own life, to the point where you can condemn another to hell. He won’t be the only one down there.

There is a big difference. I work to eradicate, and for a large part accomplish it. The other side is people who encourage others into sin, and those who chose to live life in sin for sin sake. I am sure you use your argument against many people… how many has it worked against? Being a good God loving person who Christ’s sacrifice will erase the sins requires that you try to live a life without sin, not actually do it.

If people know what she did to get put into prison, beat up will be a very light punishment. Funny thing about criminals, they enjoy policing their own. They do not like perps that make them look worse than they are. Hence Jeffry Dahlmer.
