Detroit Tiger Delmon Young arrested after anti-Semitic tirade, brawl

posted at 3:18 pm on April 27, 2012 by

Slugger Delmon Young may be a little off his game these days, batting .242, but his mouth is working just fine—a little too fine in fact. The New York Post reports that the Detroit Tigers outfielder, who is in New York with his team for a three-game series against the Yankees, was arrested early Friday after giving vent to an anti-Semitic tirade that led to a brawl in front of a midtown hotel.

According to the Post:

A panhandler wearing a yamulke approached a group of people to ask for some change—and that’s when Young, who was nearby, started shouting, ‘F–king Jews! F–king Jews!’

The incident, which occurred at around 2:40 a.m. in front of the New York Hilton, quickly turned violent. One of the combatants sustained scratches on his arm and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Young, who sources claim was “highly intoxicated,” was escorted to Roosevelt Hospital to sober up. After that, he was taken to the Midtown North Precinct where he was booked and subsequently charged with aggravated harassment. He is in custody awaiting arraignment.

A spokesman for the Tigers, Rick Thompson, told the Post that there was no word yet on Young’s status or whether he would be available to play in tonight’s game at Yankee Stadium.

Young has a history of problems controlling his temper. Investigators are looking into the possibility of charging him with a hate crime.

I can’t stand anti-Semites (or any other racist for that matter).

charge him for what he actually did, not for words he used or thoughts he has. This is the beginning of tyranny.

Investigators are looking into the possibility of charging him with a hate crime.

Charge him with assault and public intoxication. Not for the words he used. If you kill your wife because she’s leaving you, is that a love crime, and deserving of a lesser punishment?

And here I thought black people couldn’t be charged with hate crimes. I guess I was wrong.

No, you’re right. They haven’t charged him with a hate crime. They simply said what they always say.

Investigators are looking into the possibility of charging him with a hate crime.

That’s means no, it won’t be considered a hate crime.

This is made all the more sad since they released one of my faves, Brandon Inge, yesterday. Yes, Inge was in a batting slump, however, he never caused the team or the city ANY additional embarassment, God knows, we have enough to be ashamed of without idiot prima donna sports azzhats adding to it.

Young was a punk and a problematic personality with the Rays, that’s why they cut him loose.

This is no big surprise.

Midgeorgian, that looked like a strike, too. 🙂

Young male with too much muscle in his head instead of his arms, news at 11. Forget the “anti-Semitism” nonsense and just charge him with the laws he broke.

He was 0-10 prior to his tirade, that likely had something to do with it.

Have benched him on my fantasy team. Hope he learns from it.
