School disciplines 10-year-old for gun-shaped pizza slice (Video)

“I didn’t know the lunch was loaded.” That is the story of a 10-year-old from a Nashville suburb who was disciplined by his school’s administration for brandishing a pizza slice that some say resembled a handgun.
The child, Nicholas Taylor, was at lunch with classmates in mid-December at David Youree Elementary School in Smyrna. He was eating a slice of pizza when a “kid across the table from him” remarked that the unfinished slice “looked like a gun,” Nicholas’s mother told ABC affiliate WKRN-TV (video report here). “So he picked it up and started shooting it in the air,” she added.
Of course LeAnn Taylor can’t say for sure what went down in the cafeteria because she wasn’t there. But neither was James Evans, of the Rutherford County School District, who explained why the boy was being sanctioned:
[S]ome students reported he was making some threatening hand gestures, that he was shooting other kids at the table and they reported it to a teacher….
I realize some might say we are going overboard but the principal is just trying to use an abundance of caution and send the message that we don’t play about guns and it’s not something we joke around about.
Evans did not reveal whether any of the students sustained injuries from the shooting, though a forensic analysis should help investigators determine whether any red splotches found at the scene are tomato sauce or blood.
As punishment, Nicholas was condemned to the “silent table” during lunch period for the remainder of the semester. I am no psychologist, but doesn’t associating mealtime with punishment send the sort of negative message that leads to problem eating? Paging Michelle Obama and the food police.
In addition to the stigma of silent lunch, Nicholas was required to meet with the school resource officer to learn about gun safety. I submit that the school should have further required that the child to meet with the dietitian to discuss pizza safety.
Nicholas has been warned that the next time he aims his food at another student he will be suspended. Let’s just hope the school doesn’t tempt fate by serving atomic wings.

The only punishment that should have been handed down is to tell him to not play with his food. Sheesh!

Saying that he “knew the rules” is ridiculous. He’s 10 years old!

Once again adults have proven to children that adults make stupid decisions.

Pizza doesn’t kill people, people kill people.

I’m confused; who are the children and who are the adults?

Ahhhhh…the utopic society that “Liberalism” creates. Full of love, acceptance and tolerance…….

I can just see how that conversation went.
“Why are you here to see me son?”
“I got caught waiving my pizza around during lunch”.
“Oh? Well, young man this is serious. You should know that pizza is not a toy”.
“I didn’t think it was real pizza…honest Deputy, I swear”!
“OK, alright…lets calm down and have a talk. First things first. Always assume your pizza is loaded. Don’t care if it has pepperoni or not. Just assume it’s loaded”……..

Liberals are tolerant…as long as you agree 100% with them and their illogical and irrelevant positions.

My aunt didn’t want her son to play with toy guns, so she never gave him any. He ended up “shooting” everyone with a spoon.
Boys are boys. Why can’t we let them act like it?
cptacek on December 26, 2011 at 5:59 PM
Correct him, yes.
But the school is abusing the kid.
It was a childish mistake.
I think schools are emasculating boys.
They’re not allowed to act like boys any more.

If kids gnaw pointy ends onto carrot sticks, does that mean they will get removed from lunches?
And that salad, it is, like, RAPING me with its purple cabbage shreds.

WOW. really? do they actually think that just because a boy was pretending the pizza was a gun, that means that he literally had plans to get a gun, bring it to school, and shoot people? that’s f-ing crazy. this is scary, what is society coming to? you get punished for things that aren’t even bad. you can get punished for anything!!
that’s what i hate about liberalism. they want to create a perfect society where everyone is happy 100% of the time and no one ever feels bad. (unless you’re conservative) but i mean, so what, some kids felt threatened because of a pizza slice? those kids who actually got upset just because of the pizza, they’re the ones who need to think differently here, not the boy. it’s not the boy’s fault that they are scared of a pizza slice, lol. but in a perfect liberal utopia, if someone hurts your feelings or makes you slightly uncomfortable, you can get them punished, instead of… you know, that little thing called… get over it!!

Never mind that schools are failing in their responsibility to teach basic skills to children. But, by god, they ain’t gonna let any kids get shot by some kid waiving around a pizza . . .
Feel better, parents?

In 1976 when I was in grade school, the school was celebrating the 200th anniversary of our countries Independence. That June as the school year was ending we had a week long celebration where each grade represented one 13 original colonies (the some of the upper grades represented two colonies because the school was only K to 8th grade) my class was Pennsylvania. At the end of the week we signed a copy of the Declaration Of Independence, but during that week we dressed up in outfits from that era, most of us boy of course dress as soldiers complete with our guns (we were encourage to bring our toy guns from home) mine was a rife that could shoot real darts that could stick to the wall. Well guess what, the week went by with the school being full of boys with toy guns that could shoot darts, foam bullets, or make a load noise when shot and no one got hurt and we all had a good time. Fast forward to today, we have the liberal indoctrination camps, also know as the public school system, where now pizza (which I am surprised that it is still being severed in schools, because I thought the liberal food police deemed it full of fat, and therefore was to be baned from schools) is deemed a weapon, WTF. Now this kid not only has to eat lunch alone, but now has to meet with a school resource officer about “gun safety”. So now this kid is going to undergo further agenda driven liberal brainwashing by the resource officer about guns. So what will these gun topics include things like: guns are evil tools of Satan, guns will instantaneously turn you into a criminal and/or mass murderer if you are within ten feet of one, because they have minds of their own and mystical power over their users, or the Second Amendment is a lie made up by evil conservatives, or the only people allowed guns are friends of liberal like radical Muslims. This is so ridiculous on multiple levels, WTF again, and why the HELL are we allowing this liberal crap to continue in our schools.

Well, we all know pizza is hazardous to your health – just ask Moochelle…. Imagine the horror if other kids had joined in for a pizza gun food fight.
BTW – how many “victims” were there of the horrendous pizza gunfight? /s (just couldn’t resist Howard)…

Ever wonder how incidents like these almost always center around boyhood behavior? And in almost all cases, the school administration is all female?
And the war against boys continues……
