From the Irony Department: Union Election Requires Photo ID

posted at 9:17 am on December 13, 2011 by

Tom Blumer at Newsbusters ran a story yesterday on a Politico report on the approval of the Machinists Union’s contract extension:

On Wednesday, the Politico ran a story about the International Association of Machinists Union at Boeing agreeing to approve a contract extension, the result of which ultimately led to the National Labor Relations Board dropping its controversial decision to prevent the company from beginning to operate a mostly-constructed plant in South Carolina.

Politico ran their story with this photo:

With the liberal media, and the ACLU in full tilt rejection of voter ID requirements that will prevent voter fraud, is it just a bit ironic that Politico, and the rest of the liberal media missed pointing out that  a “reputable” union has established the same requirements to protect the integrity of their voting process?

Update:  One of Rasmussen’s latest surveys shows  75% Support Showing Photo ID At The Polls

Update 2:  Ed’s got a post up on the main page that’s got some good comments and arguments.

Excellent, I sent this to tips earlier this am

Too bloody funny. What will Ben jealous say now?

Why didn’t they just card check the contract?

Mike Antonucci on December 13, 2011 at 10:25 AM

Why is this a surprise? Being liberal is defined by having double standards on most everything.

As a Union man this has always been the case in our union. The integrity of a contract vote is paramount. I am in one of the few unions that getting my union officials on the phone or speaking to them face to face is the rule not the exception. Except for our General Chairman All of our officials work in the crafts they represent.

So, thicklugdonkey, what are you saying? That the integrity of a union contract vote is oh, so much more important than a political election vote? I guess it is in whatever delusional alternate reality you are living in!

boogieboy on December 13, 2011 at 2:18 PM

No boogieboy that is not what I’m saying at all.95% percent of the rank and file support voter ID at the polls. Ask any working union man or woman who is watching his tax dollars being squandered on illegals or the crybaby class. We’re as fed up as anyone else. Watching a fraud like the former head of the United Mineworkers, Richard Trumpka support enviros who want to shut coal mines is surreal. We support drilling in the Gulf of Mexico The Keystone pipeline and facking in the Marsellus shale belt. These all represent good paying union jobs.
Oh, and Sarah Palin whom I think you would count as one of your own, grew up in union household and married a union man.
Easy on the judgement Bro.

I appreciate your comments concerning most union members supporting conservative ideas about illegals, voter ID, and environmentalists, etc., Thicklugdonkey, but still, at the end of the day, you all still vote for dems that at odds with those ideals. Still looks like alternate reality to me.

This is worth noting, Thick. Your union dues are not being spent in your best interests. You can take that to the proverbial bank.

You are obviously not a Teamster, a member of the BLET nor the UTU… The fact that these “organizations” misspend so much of the rank and file money on Democrats against the wishes of their members is repugnant…

As a Wisconsinite, this irony is not lost on me at all. The lastest news, that Eric Holder is thinking about taking on state voter ID initiatives, is a joke. People are signing Scott Walker recall petitions “Mickey Mouse” and “Adolf Hitler” and its as if the politics of the left has no reality, until the union decides that they need voter ID. Which is it?
