Welcome New Hot Air Commenters/Registrants to the Greenroom

posted at 8:02 pm on December 7, 2011 by

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of the new registrants to Hot Air and the Greenroom.  I’m sure that many of you have been reading what I consider one of the best conservative websites on the planet, and, as of today you now have the opportunity to “chime in” on the conversations that are important to all of us.  The good folks at Town Hall.Com, Ed, Allahpundit, and Tina have taken founder Michelle Malkin’s, (who we proudly call the Boss Emeritus), site to a new level of conversation where thoughts, ideas, and opinions can be expressed freely, (within the boundaries of the terms of use), while enjoying the experience of sometimes hearty and heated debates.  My suggestion when posting on the main page—stay on the topic of the thread and never insult the authors—they have the power to say “good-by and thanks for the final input” in the blink of an eye.  Re-read the terms of use if you’re not sure where the boundaries are.

A reminder that Hot Air can be linked to your Facebook page so you can stay updated on the daily postings.   http://www.facebook.com/hotaircom

For Pro Football fans, Ed Morrissey does a Sunday NFL Open Thread and I’ve been posting  a College Football Open Thread here in the Greenroom on most Saturdays.

I am not a credentialed journalist, (not even close), but have enjoyed the privilege of posting here in the Greenroom for a few years now, and look forward to your comments and opinions.  Again, welcome one and all.

Rov

p.s. Please come back often and check out the writers here in the Greenroom.  They’re great people and welcome your opinions.

Note from Hot Air management: This section is for comments from Hot Air's community of registered readers. Please don't assume that Hot Air management agrees with or otherwise endorses any particular comment just because we let it stand. A reminder: Anyone who fails to comply with our terms of use may lose their posting privilege.

thanks for the welcoming!

but i don’t like how this site has such a closed registration policy… why is that? i’ve never seen that before on any other site and i’ve been very active on the internet for years. i think you should have another open registration soon. it was only open for part of the day, on one day. people can easily miss such a small window!

Basic rules of supply and demand…scarcity breeds quality.

Thanks for the welcome. I made the mistake of not signing up the last time HotAir offered registration, not realizing that it was a limited time, and rare, opportunity.

Joseph S on December 7, 2011 at 8:25 PM

I’ve been waiting for this for a couple of years now. You won’t see me much here because I can’t really say Allahpundit is an idiot in the GR.

Welcome kids, just remember to stay on the path and stay off the dang lawn. (some of us have been around since Captain’s Quarters days)

Your “wait” will be short lived my friend, here or on the main page—really not a good idea. AP is everywhere and, while you may not like his opinions, he is not an idiot.

javajana on December 7, 2011 at 9:06 PM

Thanks, but we’re not elite. The elites are in Washington or they some times fly American Airlines.

Rovin on December 7, 2011 at 9:21 PM

Thank you for the welcome and for the opportunity to become part of this community.

I’ve been a daily (several times a day) visitor of Hot Gas (Sorry, gotta stick with my man, Perry) for about 2 years now and I almost fell over when I came on this morning and saw that registration was open.

That would be because the left is rabid enough that free registration would have resulted in a pretty awful commentariat, whereas rarer opportunities to register means that only those who want it are liable to take advantage of it when it happens.

But I see where you’re coming from, Sacchin. A year and a half between registrations on such a huge site is pretty sad.

Like we want the 99% riff-raff in here! Please.

Thank you, thank you……2 years to wait for registration had me ready to explode. Feel as though I already know most of the commenters at HotAir and really enjoy the variety of topics. Any chance of another open registration soon. Have 2 cousins who have been waiting over a year and this week they’re at Disneyworld. Oh, lord…..they’re going to be inventing new four letter words. lol

Thanks for the welcome! I intend to browse this section of the site as much as the main page, and I’m grateful for your pro bono contributions to such a great site.

Glad I was in the right place at the right time, so to speak, this morning. :)

Ed Morrissey wrote in the open registration post:

We will have another open registration in the near future, so if you missed it today, just keep your eyes peeled!

Ed’s up early most days…..

Thanks for the welcome!! I was having trouble this morning and Ed fixed me up. Special thanks to him!! As many others, I have been waiting for a couple of years now and glad to be a member….

Thanks Rov. I’ve been reading Hot Gas Air for over a year and never caught an ‘open enrollment’ period – and believe me I’ve looked. I’m sure it’s the best Christmas present I’ll get this year or next!

Thank you very much for opening registration, and giving a warm welcome to us new folks! It was a lovely surprise to stumble in during the brief sign-up period! :-)

I feel so special to be in such elight company.

One question though. We can’t bash the authors but can we say “Romney sucks?”

Like sucks like the giant vacuums used in shipyards to dewater bilges during refit periods. Y’all know what I mean, right?

Big time thanks for opening the door a crack for some of us with our noses pressed against it all this time. As an author, blogger, retired AF careerist, and political junkie, I have often channeled Houdini’s jump off a building wrapped in a straitjacket with a gag in his mouth.

Free at last!!

Rovin on December 8, 2011 at 9:48 AM

One question though. We can’t bash the authors but can we say “Romney sucks?”

Among “other things”, Romney can not end your right privilege to comment here. However, bashing the authors might make your stay here a bit short-lived. While I doubt criticism of the content of the author’s post would garnish a ban, getting personal with the writers might. If you’ve got any doubts, please re-read the terms of use.

hillsoftx on December 8, 2011 at 9:11 AM

Very little can compare to the joy of having family with you hillsoftx. Glad that HA could put some icing on the cake.

Rovin on December 8, 2011 at 10:08 AM

traye on December 8, 2011 at 8:25 AM

Who told you that you can’t bash the authors? Whoever it was should tell the people who comment on my articles.

Seriously, we don’t really get people banned here unless they are chronic problems, usually spamming defamatory garbage. We do have the power to delete comments in the comments sections of our articles, but that’s typically reserved, again, for those people who want to turn the comment section into their own personal blackboard for their frustrations. Keep it passionate but sane, and we’ll all get along swimmingly.

MadisonConservative on December 8, 2011 at 11:02 AM

For some reason I am a tad overexited to now being able to post here…Thanks. By the way, ANYBODY BUT OBOZO!

DWoDiego on December 8, 2011 at 11:46 AM

I have been trying to register here for quite a while now, always missing the tiny windows, but I finally hit it. (I remember when there was no registration, back in the old days, and was caught cold when registration was closed outright.)

I am one of the five Republicans who support Huntsman, although probably not for the reason the other four do. (My second choice is Gary Johnson, and my third is Newt Gingrich; feel free to try to figure out my most important issue, the one that prevents me from seriously considering the other candidates, except Ron Paul, who I won’t support because he’s a crazy old man.)

FWIW, (IRT someone’s comment above), I am a big fan of AP, although I find a lot of stuff in the Green Room that I like too. AP’s secular conservatism appeals to me, although I am not an atheist like him.

Ah…Captain’s Quarters. Nothing wrong at all with Hot Air, but CQ was da bomb.

I’ve had a mild buzz going all day–it’s great to finally be a member of the commentariat.

Explain exactly how this greenroom thing works, and what makes it different from the standard “hot air.”

How does one get to publish articles or start threads? Or isn’t that done?

How does a “green room” article get on the main “hot air” page.

I’ve been reading hot air since day one, and was an early (relatively speaking) registrant. I used to post regularly, but I found the tolls to be too obnoxious, and rather than risk being banned for giving them much deserved snarkings, I limited my participation at hot air to read-only, mostly.

We, on the right, are going to face a tough year with vitriolic attacks coming from the leftstream media, with violence expressed at us from Obama’s thugs, and since this side is a “civil society” instead of being “activists”, I hope this forum can be useful in defeating the left.

georgej on December 8, 2011 at 9:00 PM

what I consider one of the best conservative websites on the planet

Got that right.

John the Libertarian on December 8, 2011 at 9:44 PM

Thanks for opening the registration to allow a few more of us “normies” in. Hot Air has long been my bolt-hole when looking to evade the crazies that inhabit the bleeping Thunderdome that is the MSM. Keep up the good fight and know that there are many of us out there that appreciate the work you do here.

Cheers!

Hello, everybody.

Thank you to the HotAir powers that be for holding open registration.

I’ve read the comments here for a long time, and I’m excited to be able to comment now.

Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah to all!

georgej on December 8, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Georgej,

(this is my own personal description of the Greenroom for what it’s worth)

The Greenroom is a conglomeration of unpaid writers/bloggers who were invited to post here by the “top brass” if you will. Many of them have their own blogsites and/or write for other websites, (examples: Karl writes regularly for Patrick Frey of Patterico’s Pontifications, and the notorious Dafydd ab Hugh has his own site, Big Lizards. I would describe both of these writers a champions of conservative causes and recommended reading.) Many of the other writers here cross-post and link their publications to their own websites that allows non-registered Hot Air readers to converse/opine. As to the other fine writers here, I would suggest reading their work and following their links to learn more about them.

Personally, I like to think of the Greenroom as the “think-tank” of Hot Air, and articles posted here are promoted to the main page at the sole discretion of Ed and Allahpundit, (to the best of my knowledge). If a topic is relevant to today’s “evolving events” and drives commentary/conversation, it has the best chance to be advanced to the main page, but there are no defined parameters.

I came on board when Ed Morrissey was hired by the founder of Hot Air, (originally called the Vent), Michelle Malkin, and Ed closed down Captain’s Quarters. Again, to the best of my knowledge, all CQ commenters, (at the closing of CQ), were given the privilege of registering to comment at HA. Later, (at the prodding of a fellow CQ commenter, and now great friend, Keemo), I was invited to post here in the Greenroom. Since then, Michelle Malkin, (who we affectionately call the Boss Emeritus), sold HA to the fine folks at TownHall.com. It is my opinion that with the conglomeration of TownHall, Hot Air, the Greenroom, and all of the affiliated contributors, “we” have an excellent voice in the Conservative Cause to combat the liberal progressive left in the days ahead. While we may all have “different” views and objective avenues, I believe a united conservative front can go a long way towards marginalizing the liberal left, (and their poisonous progressive socialist agenda). THIS STILL IS A CENTER-RIGHT NATION, contrary to illusions that the liberal media and their pundits would have the populace/electorate believe. It is also my humble opinion that without A UNITED AND COHESIVE FRONT heading into this next year, “we” could lose the momentum that swept conservatives into power in 2010. (Leave the Tea Party conservatives out of “this cause” at our own peril).

“I hope this forum can be useful in defeating the left.”

I would venture a guess that you are not alone George.

(Apologies for the length of this…..hope it helped.)

Wow, I’ve waited years to type in this little box, and now I’m speechless. This would never happen to Newt.

Thanks for opening things up! I have enjoyed Hot Air for some time and I look forward to offering up my two cents worth from time to time.

dhull on December 9, 2011 at 2:05 PM

Rovin on December 9, 2011 at 9:32 AM

Thanks for the explanation.

With all due respect to the Boss Emeritus, I wasn’t happy when Ed closed CQ and came on board at HA. I believed then (and still do now) we need MORE independent online voices, not consolidation. (No offense, Townhall)

I like HA and Townhall, don’t misunderstand. I’ve read a number of Green Room articles and consider the posters to be intelligent, conservative, wordsmiths. And I do appreciate all 3 forums (Townhall, HA, GR).

Keep up the good work.

georgej on December 9, 2011 at 5:16 PM

Thank you for opening registration. I have been reading HotAir since the very beginning, as a reader of MM’s site. I thought I registered in one of the first open registrations, but for some reason was never able to post. Life distractions precluded later attempts, but I have finally made it through an open window!

I’m looking forward to using this precious benefit, sparingly.
