A bullet fired at the White House hit an exterior window and was stopped by ballistic glass, the Associated Press reports.
The Secret Service states that a second round of ammunition was found outside the White House on Tuesday. An investigation has been launched, but the Secret Service has been tight-lipped about specific details including the caliber of the bullets recovered and which room of the executive mansion the shots were aimed at.
The president, who was on his way to the APEC summit in Hawaii at the time of the shooting, was not in the building.
U.S. Park Police have an arrest warrant for Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, who is believed to be connected to an incident on Friday, when witnesses heard gunshots and saw two speeding vehicles in the vicinity of the White House. Authorities later recovered an assault rifle in an abandoned car near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge that crosses the Potomac River to Virginia. Items inside the vehicle led investigators to consider Ortega-Hernandez as a possible suspect.
The suspect is described as 21-year-old Hispanic man. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He is further described as being of medium build with brown eyes and black hair. He is believed to have ties to Idaho. He has no links to radical organizations but does have an arrest record in three states.
