Hot Air Candidate Survey Results: Post-Palin/Post-Christie Edition

posted at 12:17 pm on October 8, 2011 by

Herman Cain continues to hold a commanding lead after the departure of Sarah Palin and Chris Christie from the field. Cain is followed by Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul. The monthly tracker is below:

Two interesting notes. First, it looks pretty clear that Christie posed a considerable threat to Romney’s candidacy. While that may not be “news” per se, the extent of his threat is worth highlighting by pointing out the results of the last survey with Christie included, and comparing it to this survey with Christie out. Second, Newt Gingrich continues to rise. The precise catalyst for this is unclear to me, but Gingrich has gained traction as Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul have lost it among Hot Air readers. Explanations for this are welcome in the comments.
