Lefty reaction to the death of bin Laden

posted at 11:17 pm on May 1, 2011 by

Another prediction. Ready?

So we finally got bin Laden, right? So now, you should be satisfied. We should immediately pull all our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and bring them all home. Because we won, right? bin Laden is dead, so you chicken-hawks have now had your revenge. That was what you were after, right?

(Uh, Libya? No, that’s not the same. Ought to keep going on that one.)

Coming soon to a Huffpo near you.

Good point!

Here’s another I should have predicted. Saw it just now on Metafilter:

“How does this help give every American health care?”

Steven Den Beste on May 2, 2011 at 12:16 AM

We booted the cowboy and elected a black, liberal urbanite, and he’s the one who tracked down the bad guy. It’s just too, too delicious.

That’s an actual lefty tweet…they are all doing variations on that theme at the moment. So that’s probably ‘the narrative’ for sure.

….ignoring that the black, liberal urbanite just used the infrastructure the cowboy had built up….

Nah, the black leftist urbanite just took the credit. It was the much maligned CIA that tracked him down.

While a few idiots will always exist, I think that this morning, left and right alike, rejoice.

We on the right can certainly give Obama credit for competently continuing the war on terror including maintaining our victory in Iraq.

Whoops!

The far Left article from The Nation is here: http://www.thenation.com/blog/160310/osama-bin-laden-dead-its-time-end-war-terror

The sensible Left article, per Johnathan Chait of The New Republic, is here: http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-chait/87732/what-osama-bin-ladens-death-means

“Osama bin Laden met the justice he deserved. Hopefully justice will also be done with regard to a full investigation into the war crimes of the Bush administration and what really happened on 9/11.”

Proof positive that not all medications work.

Say…..wait a minute!

No “due process”? Are we just killing people now without a trial? (I figured I would give the Huffies a head start on their coming narrative!)

Opposite Day on May 2, 2011 at 9:00 AM

I’m listening to Opie & Anthony this morning on XM, baiting liberals down at Ground Zero (where the Today Show’s cameras are) into politicizing OBL’s death into a victory for Obama over Bush. You can tell they’re celebrating because they really believe nothing else between now and November 2012 is going to matter in Obama’s re-election campaign, and that they’re happier because they see this as a victory over Republicans more than a victory over al Qaida.

jon1979 on May 2, 2011 at 9:04 AM

The reactionary left is going nuts over this.

Because this is the first real accomplishment of the Obama regime.

Clearly, Steven you’ve missed your calling. You should polish up that crystal ball and start selling your predictions. They’re gold.

The Mayor and DA are trying to take credit for the work of the Cold Case Squad here.

All 0bama needed to do was not defund the guys doing the hunting, sign on the dotted line when they presented the intel to him, and let them shoot the guy instead of breaking their butts to bring hium back alive.

You do know that Starchild is or was the head of the Libertarian Party here. I’m pretty sure it is him.

Ron Paul is whining about this, too.

Machiavelli Hobbes on May 2, 2011 at 1:45 PM

People forget that Bush Sr had a 90% approval rating in the Summer of 1991 after Desert Storm. 16 months later they threw him out for 6.5% unemployment and $1.50 gasoline

Bevan on May 2, 2011 at 2:11 PM

I gloat.

Editor of The Nation Katrina van den Heuvel says that “it is time to bring an end to the senseless war in Afghanistan” and argues for a “new and more effective security template” that does not “allow ‘war’ framing to define the national psyche and our politics.” Minutes after the president’s East Room address, Robert Greenwald of the antiwar Bravenew Foundation sent out a fundraising appeal and online petition, writing: “With al-Qaeda driven from [Afghanistan] and Bin Laden now dead, the rationale for war has evaporated. It’s time to stop now.”

Steven Den Beste on May 3, 2011 at 1:03 AM

Bin Laden’s death is the one time the Left should be saying “It’s Bush’s fault”…but it’s the only time they don’t. Odd.
