Tier 2 Elitist Effected This Time Around—Show Me Your Millionaires
President Obama will be visiting/soliciting the “wealthy state” of California on Wednesday. Citing the ultra-liberal San Francisco Chronicle‘s, (online version), own report, it sounds like not every one is glowing with enthusiasm this time around:
“President Obama comes to Silicon Valley on Wednesday for the second time in three months to talk about the economy and jobs – and what a difference a re-election campaign makes.
In February, Obama went to the Peninsula town of Woodside for an exclusive dinner with high-tech billionaires including Apple’s Steve Jobs and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, where the economy was billed as Topic A.”
Even as the President’s approval numbers continue to fall/plummet, fortunately for the President, there’s plenty of “second-tier” elitist willing to make “an investment” in winning the future, and it appears that liberals in California have no problem with “sharing the wealth” as long as it’s delivered into the proper hands:
“The president’s trip, his ninth visit to California since he was elected in 2008, will include four events to pick up campaign cash in the Bay Area – including two at Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco expected to draw 2,500 attendees each, with tickets ranging from $25 for general admission to $10,000 for a VIP reception.
A more exclusive gathering will be a private dinner for 60 supporters at the Pacific Heights home of Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff that is sold out at $35,800 a seat.
On Thursday, 100 of Obama’s backers will attend a private breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, paying from $5,000 to $35,000 apiece to visit with him.”
“That’s a lot of ‘change to believe in,’ ” quipped labor leader Rose Ann DeMoro, who heads the 65,000-member California Nurses Association and National Nurses United, in a pointed reference to Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan. “I’m sure the corporate class is hoping he continues on the same path.”
DeMoro went on to point out some of the disappointments liberals have voiced with Obama’s failure to pass universal health care while allowing the Bush tax cuts to continue. Also on Wednesday Obama is scheduled to hold a “Facebook Townhall”, yet even some of his loyalist are questioning the format:
Wednesday’s Facebook session to sell his jobs and economic initiatives – billed as the “Shared Responsibility and Shared Prosperity” town hall – marks a sharp contrast to his most recent visit, when he dined with some of the nation’s richest tech leaders.
That trip sparked grumbling from Silicon Valley insiders and supporters, who were miffed at being excluded, and from party loyalists who thought the “billionaires dinner” at the estate of wealthy venture capitalist John Doerr appeared elitist.
“Let’s not call them ‘town halls,’ they’re scripted events,” said radio host Patrick Dorinson, who writes the Cowboy Libertarian website. “A town hall is when people are not screened by sending their questions to the White House.
Obama’s gambling that elitist and millionaires in California can grab a hold of the “Shared Responsibility and Shared Prosperity” message. Remember, he thinks at some point they’ve made enough money. And the “fund-raiser/campaigner-in-chief” will be delighted to solicit the excess.
