Big Govt. Alert: Cat Summoned for Jury Duty

We tried to warn the people of Massachusetts what would happen if they kept electing Democrats. (And no… sadly, Scott Brown hasn’t been able to change it. He’s only one man, after all.) Big Government is now fully out of control, reaching past their desire to control every aspect of human life and snatching up our pets.
Cat is summoned for jury duty in Boston; court rejects owners’ appeal to disqualify him
Boston resident Sal Esposito has been called to jury duty, but there’s one thing standing in the way of his ability to serve: He’s a cat.
Massachusetts couple Anna and Guy Esposito received a jury duty summons for their feline friend this month, who they had listed as a household resident on the 2010 Census.
“Sal is a member of the family so I listed him on the last Census form under pets but there has clearly been a mix-up,” Anna told local TV station WHDH. “I read the whole thing and I said, ‘Oh my God, how could he go, he’s a cat?’”
Even after being alerted to this intrusive offense, the Big Govt. machine in Boston turned a deaf ear to the couple’s complaints, rejecting their request for a disqualification. This happened even after being informed that Sal was “unable to speak and understand English,” and receiving a letter from Sal’s vet indicating that he was not actually a human being.
Sal is currently scheduled to report to court on March 23rd. With luck, one of our readers from Beantown can be there with a camera.

You can’t make this crap up.
The Espositos should go to the courthouse as scheduled, with a copy of all correspondence in hand. Each of them should have a video camera ready to document the hilarity that will surely ensue.

Um, I’m not aware of the latest long form, but unless there is a section there for pets, this is fraud. I had the short form and though I have two dogs, I only listed myself.

But just wait until government gets control of health care. Then things will be so much better.

Yes. The Bureaucracy must be mocked, long, loudly, and repeatedly.
This is an example that refutes the fundamental premis of Progressiveism.
Make the Progressives un-cool.

Does this mean the owners can take the cat off as a dependent on their fed taxes?

Wouldn’t mind having an all feline jury. Especially in Massachusetts.
Far more practical than the average human resident.

Only a letter from the vet stating Sal is a cat
Shows how much respect they have for the intelligence of the electorate–but I guess vets have an acceptable IQ level.

Sign him up as a GOP voter. At the very least is will help balance all those voters from the Irish cemetery.

Aren’t most juries selected from voter registration doles?
gryphon202 on January 20, 2011 at 11:13 AM
My bad! Looks as if Sal may already be a registered Democrat. It’s Massachusetts after all.

Yes, the real story here is that somebody registered their cat to vote. And they’re stupid enough to think that nobody else realizes it. They’re actually going to walk into a courthouse with the cat in hand… and they think they’ll be the ones having a laugh.

I would just love to see a video of the owners hauling the cat to court for jury duty. The look on the judge’s face would be priceless!

I bet we’d all get a laugh if the true identity of many, many Boston area registered voters came out. I hope one of you Bostonians sends this into Howie Carr.

this story is exactly one year old- it occurred in jan of 2010.
it’s as if no one can manage to find anything involving pussies in a blue state to comment on.
i’d rather be judged by cats than most any MA voter. at least Sal the Cat knows “right from wrong”.

This sounds more like the cat had been registered to vote.

Paw the scratching post once for guilty, twice for not guilty.
OK, kitteh?

What a cat-astrophe.

They get names off the DMV and voter registration lists and call those over 18. This woman is lying. In fact, I suspect she registered her cat to vote.

There’s a famous New Yorker cartoon of a courtroom with a judge, jury, and defense atty – all cats. The defendant is a dog. His cat-atty is arguing to the all cat jury: Sure, he’s a car chaser, but a cat killer? No!
