WAG THE DOG CONTEST: Guess The Obama Administration’s Next BIG DISTRACTION, and Win An All-Expense Paid Trip To…….

posted at 6:09 am on October 19, 2010 by

O.K. You don’t get to win anything. In the advertising business, this is called “a teaser” or a well designed deception. I could have made a promise to send you anywhere in the country, (free round of golf included). Or, I could promise you free health care. Perhaps a job would be worth your efforts. Or, (in the spirit of hope and change), I could just list all the promises our President, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Democrats have falsely promised in the past two years to get your cooperation / vote. But, then that would be a “designed deception” wouldn’t it?

The real fact is……this American economy sucks. The mainstream media won’t tell you this, they’re too busy prostituting themselves by defending the very economic policies that have plunged this nation into record generational debt. Billions in under-funded entitlements, billions in bailouts, and billions poured into the public jobs sector, (unions), yet we still have unemployment running between 10% to 14% depending on which state you live in. Housing foreclosures are about to explode again because the powerful banking lobby got a pass on the financial reform Democrats promised would rein in fraudulent practices. Wall Street and the banking industry have reverted back to business as usual. Did I mention the economy still sucks?

While taking a pass on passing a real budget, and choosing NOT to vote on whether to extend the Bush tax rate cut – Democrats love tax hikes—Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the liberal progressives instead adjourned to go home and campaign on something other than their “accomplishments”. The Blue Dog Democrats are even campaigning against the Speaker of the House, and in some cases against the runaway federal spending which the White House has advocated and embraced.

Which bring us back to the contest. What’s the next “wag the dog” in the White House’s attempt to distract us from the reality of a broken economy? In this past year, the Obama administration tried inserting race relations into the debate, including the false accusation that the Tea Party and their candidates were racist thugs. That didn’t work. Further, they attempted to inject immigration and token border security by suing the State of Arizona for protecting themselves. This distraction didn’t work either as national public opinion favored Arizona’s policies. Now they are attacking private American businesses, (and the United States Chamber of Commerce), apparently because of their support for Republican candidates. This hasn’t worked either. So, what’s a failed administration to do when forecasters are predicting a tsunami of change back to the conservative principles of a smaller government and responsible spending practices? You guessed it—-WAG THE DOG!

With fourteen days left for Barack Obama and the Democrats to keep American’s minds off the state of the economy, (and their party without any credible issue to campaign on), they just have to come up with one more BIG DISTRACTION. What will it be? Clinton tried bombing a few pill factories to take the nation’s mind off his indiscretions, while his wife blamed the now infamous “right wing conspiracy”.

Only a liberal progressive Democrat could promise you a reward for coming up with another distraction or excuse for these failed policies. Lord knows they’ve promised everything else, (at the taxpayer’s expense), from free health care to discounted homes and cars. Payoffs to their unions and lawyers has cost this country billions, while this administration continues attacking private enterprises. The President and the First Lady are doing their best, (or worst), at demonizing the evil Republicans and their Tea Party’s aim to reduce the size and scope of government power. While the nation mires itself in historic unemployment, and billions “invested”/wasted in the banks and Wall Street, this economy will continue to falter. It’s only a matter of time. But time has run out on this liberal social experiment. Only a major distraction could keep motivated conservatives and independents from reaching the polls to reverse this disastrous agenda. I can’t think of how desperate Obama and the Democrats could get in the next two weeks, or what they would come up with. All I can do is promise to publish your entries here in the Greenroom. Unlike the Democrats, it’s a promise that won’t bust the budget.

(While 99% of this post is factual, this essay is the sole opinion of the writer and not the owners of this site, or its affiliates. Winners of the Wag the Dog contest will be judged by me and there will be no monetary rewards. Like the Democratic Party, satisfaction is not guaranteed.)

Environment, one way or the other, will become a distraction = my vote. And “it’s the right wing’s fault”, no doubt.

I’ll toss a handful of used staples into the prize package.

I was thinking about something a little more “off the wall” Robert. Believable by the thousands of lemmings that turned out in “08, buying every word that came from Obama’s mouth, yet leaving even liberal pundits scratching their heads. My personal favorite would be Obama claiming that he talked directly with Osama bin laden, and the international terrorist promised he and his whole Al-Qaeda network would surrender on November 3rd, only if the Democrats remained in power in both the House and the Senate. Or, every polling station will be manned by the Black Panther Party to ensure the integrity of process—since Holder has determined that this was not an infraction of our rights in the last election.

Oh I dunno, maybe:

1) Telling Israel, sure go ahead and bomb those Iranians therby manufacturing a crisis to exploit or

2) Announcing that since evil wall street hasn’t reformed, the government is taking over all banks and financial institutions to make sure the little guy finally gets his free mortgage. Make the Dems look like heroes and gets them what they want.

OK tin foil hat is off now.

Duncan Khuver on October 19, 2010 at 9:36 AM

It’ll be “democracy is broken, how can we reform our electoral system (so that nasty evil Rethuglicans can’t get elected except for a few token oness.)”

rbj on October 19, 2010 at 9:47 AM

They may try a few more little things, but by Halloween, nuking Iran. Something to do with a war, something outside the country, maybe finding Bin Laden, well they couldn’t actually do that, so they could claim to have bombed him, it would have to be something massive, big pretty explosions.

It won’t work, or it will work and more democrats will stay home!! It will back fire, yes, of course the WH will double down because he always does, some scare tactic that in fact will work, but on the wrong people. LOL

odannyboy on October 19, 2010 at 10:30 AM

Space aliens!! Yeah that would do it, then of course declare a national emergency and martial law.

odannyboy on October 19, 2010 at 10:50 AM

Two major influences at work in forming the next distraction: the partisan/ideological reflex, and the traditional or conventional “rally round the flag” option. The choice may decide Obama’s future and the next two years. Obama has a huge bias for the former, but may have exhausted these options. Everything he has tried along partisan and ideological lines (attacking Chamber of Commerce, class warfare, racism, etc.) has proved a bust. Now one wonders what the choices from the latter category(call it the Clintonian Option, e.g., bombing the aspirin factory) might be. Obama has shown little taste for this option. But he may be down to it.

My guess is either some kind of “emergency” deployment of force in a hitherto un-militarized front. In Africa against pirates/jihadists? Or more radically — some kind of serious use of force along Mexican border against drug gangs?

A more remote possibility is the go-ahead for Israel to bomb Iran. That would be significant, a “game changer.” But also the hardest for Obama to do. Does he have raw need for political survival sufficient to abandon ideological hatred for Israel? I don’t think so. Unless he thought he could triangulate Israel into an international pariah after the bombing. That would like Obama.

If this were 2012 and Obama trailing Palin in the polls, I submit that he would shut down the internet based on phony cyber-security threat. In fact, I predict that he will do that in 2012.

Continuing demonization of Wall Street and large banks – A promise will be made that every American, young or old, will receive a government pension that you’ll pay into every year and self direct the investment but will be under the auspices and oversight of the federal government. This national “401(k)” will promise a tax shelter to those paying into it (which by default will be everyone).

What it will be: A grab for other private 401(k) funds via regulation (why not, it seemingly worked for Obamacare!), and then the federal government will use it as a slush fund to funnel money to special interest groups that have no other oversight – funds will receive ‘user fees’ (oooh, but they’re not called ‘taxes’!) that will be proportional to what your reported income is (the more you make, the more you’re required to deposit, by law).

…I need to take a shower, I feel all dirty trying to think like a Democrat.

There are few standard distractions left, but if I had to guess I think they are going to pull the old standard Gender Card in the hopes of securing the women’s (or wymon’s) vote.

The Uterus Distraction – R’s are trying to steal your Uteri.

The Invasive Christian Distraction – R’s are trying to make you barefoot & preggers.

And one they are doing now which is designed to appeal to women – the “give him a chance” distraction.

They will discover an al-Qa’ida plot to disrupt the election by attacking polling places. Therefore, the election will have to be postponed for safety reasons until the perpetrators are found… in 2013 or beyond. The alternative is that polling places will have to be guarded by the New Black Panthers, ACORN and SEIU as security.

Full on trade war with China. Domestic and foreign markets tumble. Chaos in the West and East.

NaCly dog on October 19, 2010 at 3:30 PM

I’m guessing that the only thing left that could be a national distraction is the sinking dollar and the reduction of trade China is now demonstrating. The reduction in raw materials like rare earths for the ‘green’ electric car motors and silver exports to the US. Silver is not only a precious metal but is heavily used in industry, the US can’t produce what it consumes.

We will have a dollar crisis that will require the FED, Timmy-boy and PBHO to solve at the expense of the tax-payer.

Mumbai style attacks here in the homeland is my guess.

Low-tech against soft targets, followed by the inevitable media blackout on the religious leanings of the perps.

Percy me!, This one’s movin’ up the charts. Naw, not sure if the media would buy it.

Rovin on October 20, 2010 at 5:56 PM

OK, an honest attempt at winning…

Their distractions must try to accomplish two things:
1. Target a major irritant to them (Rush, CofC funding of issue ads..)
2. Sow distrust in the public to harm the target.

Therefore, (drumroll) I think they will go after the blogosphere again in some major way. The people never were scared enough of the “internets” to go for Net neutrality, but if the Obamorons can pull of some kind of Internet related scarefest, then
1. The “new media” would be targeted, and
2. The seeds of distrust might take hold, sending the sheeple back to NBC, CBS, and ABC to get their news.

Good luck with that one Barry. It won’t work on me since I sold my TV in a garage sale in 2005.

Sarah Palin signing a US Flag with a marker pen generates national outrage and the people vote against all tea party candidates.

lexhamfox on October 20, 2010 at 11:51 PM

What the Dems need right now is a good old fashioned Natural Disaster. Not that those things are predictable or anything, but if one does happen, count on it being played.

L.A. earthquake or gulf coast hurricane anyone?
