More Democratic Ethics Problems Emerge

posted at 12:35 pm on August 31, 2010 by

Democrats these days seem bent on testing the truth value of the adage “bad news comes in threes.” With ethics investigations of Reps. Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters still unresolved and on voters’ minds, news of yet another Democrat corruption scandal has broken.

The Dallas Morning News reports that veteran congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) diverted thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and the children of one of her aides. The recipients were ineligible under anti-nepotism rules imposed by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which was the source of the money.

The awards violated a second foundation requirement that scholarship winners live or study in a caucus member’s district.

Johnson’s office released a statement admitting that her actions represented a rule violation but included the claim that it was inadvertent and that she was now working to “rectify the financial situation.” Yeah, that sounds pretty believable.

This news comes a day after a Gallup poll revealed that Republicans running for Congressional seats are now favored over Democrats by a 10-percent margin in a generic matchup. Memo to Speaker Pelosi: How’s that draining of the swamp coming?

It was interesting Monday night to see Anderson Cooper devote the first 15 minutes of his show to the Johnson scholarship fund scandal, and to offer up no excuses for her behavior (other than the ones provided by the CBC representative during the segment).

Rangel and Waters have been in the public spotlight enough so that they have some entrenched hard-core supporters, and they represented districts in the key Blue States (and media headquarters) on the east and west coasts. Eddie Bernice has pretty much been an unknown outside her own district, and represents a district in a Red State, so she neither has the name recognition nor is in an important enough state to get the same sort of kid-glove treatment from the for her scandal that Charlie and Maxine have gotten (i.e. — The big media knows the reps’ actions stink to high heaven, but are willing to avoid focusing on Rangel and Waters because of the location of their districts, seniority in Congress and negative effect it would have for The Cause. But they’re not sticking their necks out a third time for some low-level grifter congresswoman virtually none of them had heard of until the Dallas Morning News broke the scholarship scandal story).

No correct thinking American, regardless of skin color, sex, etc. should be able to tolerate such blatant thievery from the person supposedly representing you.

Open your minds and look inside. If you did something like this and were caught, you would be figuring on prison time. Your accomplices too would likely face big trouble.

Just let the truth into your heart. This person wants to enrich herself and her family and could care less about you. Will you continue to wear chains voluntarily?

This is true for any American being abused by their elected representative. If they do not represent you with honor and trust, why do you keep voting for them? In fact, you should be actively working to get rid of them as soon as possible.
