Campaigner-in-Chief Snubs The Boy Scouts 100 Year Anniversary Jamboree For An Appearance On The View

[ Obama ]
President Barack Obama is the honorary chairman of the Boys Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts have given millions of hours in volunteer service, and have helped to make strong, accomplished leaders out of millions of boys over the last hundred years. Many of our nation’s presidents have been involved with Boy Scouts, including George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Lyndon B. Johnson, John F. Kennedy, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Scouting builds character, encourages leadership, and instills strong, traditional values that many children lack growing up today. The last three presidents — George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush — all spoke at Boy Scout Jamborees while serving in office. This year is the Boy Scout 100 Year Anniversary Jamboree, but will Obama be attending? Nope, he’s got more important things to do… like rub elbows with the ladies of The View. Priorities, people, priorities.
President Barack Obama, the honorary chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, will not speak in-person before the group on Wednesday at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, as part of the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration. However, the president is sending a videotaped message to the scouts for Wednesday, the same day he will be in Manhattan to tape an appearance for ABC TV’s talk show “The View.”
Bob Dries, chairman of national news and media at the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree – a gathering that happens every four years and attracts thousands of scouts from around the world – told CNSNews.com that the organization was told on Monday that the president had scheduling conflicts and would not be speaking in-person at the week-long event.
The BSA had scheduled its Wednesday arena program to include remarks by the president at 11 a.m. in front of the more than 45,000 scouts who will be in attendance.
Now, I could understand Obama not attending if he was doing some actual, you know, governing. But he isn’t. He’s blowing off the Boy Scouts — 45,000 American boys — in favor of the women of The View. And it isn’t even a live appearance, it’s a taped appearance. You’re telling me there’s no way he could have rescheduled his pre-taped appearance on The View to make time for the organization that has built the character of millions of American boys? I don’t know. Maybe Obama would just feel uncomfortable around thousands of boys who genuinely love God and country. And Lord knows, he might be worried about the competition with his Hitler Youth Brigade.
Of course, this isn’t all that shocking. We call Obama the Campaigner-in-Chief for a reason, and this is just another one. He loves the perks of the job, he loves his celebrity status, but he doesn’t actually want to do anything. He’d rather hang out with celebrities than honor 48 Medal of Honor recipients. He’d rather go to parties and play golf than clean up the oil spill in the Gulf. And he’d rather play celebrity on The View than attend the Boy Scout 100 Year Anniversary Jamboree.

the Spew is exactly the kind of venue for Barack Obama. It’s all about the O, why should America expect him to actually praise our youth?

Is anyone at all surprised by this anymore? Dear Liar may be an American citizen, but He is not an American.

I am not sure if this is true, but I have read several times that this bho will not even sign the recognition of an Eagle Scout as most other Presidents have done. I am so sorry we have this bho as POTUS.

Fort A.P. Hill is a 30-45 minute helo ride from the White House.
Let’s see…chopper in and out – 60-90 minutes. Maybe 45 minutes on the ground, perhaps a lot less. Total elapsed time, let’s call it two hours, to meet and greet 45,000 or so atttendees, from the podium; attendees most of whom will register to vote when they turn 18, as Boy Scouts do have an excellent record of active civic participation after they leave Scouting.
Obama could have at least gone through the motions of appearing to care for these young men and their families, as they/we, celebrate their/our centennial.
Obama cannot spare two hours of effort to go down to A.P. Hill?
But, he’d rather sit around for at least a couple hours going through make-up and pre-tape prep, actually taping, and post-taping glad-handing, on The View not to mention the several hours involved in transportation from DC to NYC and West 66th Street, tying up traffic in midtown for an hour, as well.
Priorities…yep. It is indeed, all about the “O.”
As a former Boy Scout, myself, I have to say, the Boy Scouts don’t need Obama at A.P. Hill. He hasn’t earned it.

Taping a show for The View should not be on his agenda even if he didn’t have other things that ought to be attended to. This fondness he has for appearing on popular TV shows just underlines more darkly his complete lack of understanding of what the Presidency is and represents at it’s core. To be sure, it is not just Obama, I would not approve of any sitting President who chooses this sort of avenue to get attention. Would prefer that he get his accolades by solving problems or at least working towards same–not schmoozing on The View…actually a lightwieght outlet whose main thrust is celebrity gossip and interviews…though apparently they believe differently.

I, for one, am glad the Secular Messiah will not be sullying the celebration…

Gotta remember…the Boy Scouts are an evil, discriminatory organization… they don’t fall in with the liberal belief that no matter what, you’d damned well better let whoever do WHATEVER regardless of the outcome… UNLESS that whoever is Christian.
This is not a surprise to me. It really isn’t. This president doesn’t give a damn about the most basic beliefs of many people of this country. And he certainly does not care about history, tradition, honor, etc. In fact, were I a member of the Boy Scouts of America, I’d be GLAD he ain’t coming. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

He’s snubbing them because they don’t have merit badges for “rolling joints” or “snorting coke”… the only things he was good at.

Clinton skipped it in ’93… as a scout in attendance, I didn’t miss him, but we all thought it was pretty lame. He did show up in ’97 so I was able to see him the second time around, and he did a nice job with his speech.
I believe the White House does send the letter of commendation to Eagle Scouts, I was at a court of honor last November, and the scout we were recognizing did get a letter from Obama.
It would be curious, if this has anything to with the BSA’s stance on homosexuals, but I think it’s probably has more to do with the President not caring.
Jim T on July 27, 2010 at 12:41 PM
Jim T: I think you actually got it right when you suggested it had to do with homosexuality. Obama doesn’t want to risk alienating his gay supporters by suggesting that he actually approves of anything so icky as the Boy Scouts. Using the taping of The View (don’t presidents have any dignity any more?) as an excuse is extraordinarily lame, and to me it signals that he would have rather done pretty much anything than get within fifty miles of Fort AP Hill.

Considering A.P. Hill is about 100 miles away from the White House…
coldwarrior on July 27, 2010 at 2:53 PM
He will obviously get a warmer reception by the women at The View. But more substantively, could it be his commitment to advancing the gay rights agenda that is underneath this snub?

I’m involved with scouting and usually when a boy makes Eagle scout, he can write and request a letter from the President in recognition of this event. It is my understanding, since Obama’s been President, that the Eagle scouts in our troop have not received letters from the President, and that the reason has to do with the scouts position on gays in leadership. I will try to confirm this, but this has been told to me by the parents of some of our boys.

What else could you expect from someone who was not inculcated in Americanism as a child but instead dreamed of being a “Young Pioneer”.

Fox News just said that he wasn’t skipping the Jamboree for The View, but for Democratic Fundraisers….. yes, they can spin this thing into a deeper hole!

I am an Eagle Scout.
I would be offended to have Obama attend any Boy Scout function that I was attending. He is a disgrace!
The Rock on July 28, 2010 at 10:45 AM
Why should he care? Most of them can’t vote for him in 2012.

I went to national at A.P. Hill in 1985. We saw the Beach Boys – they were great. Reagan had more important things to do than hang out with us. He was on the job – thank God.

Oh, great – six ladies sitting on the couch.
Maybe Sir Golfsalot can give the other girls the scoop on what tacky designer duds Michelle will be wearing while deigning to mingle with the little people that they both so despise.
And after the show, in the Green Room, maybe they can all change into their baby doll PJs, have a pillow fight, and write mash notes to Justin Bieber.
