A comment on the inappropriate construction project near where a major tragedy occurred…
posted at 11:14 am on July 23, 2010 by MadisonConservative
By now, most of you are familiar with the case of Oscar Grant, a man who died in January of 2009 as a result of an Oakland police officer shooting him in the back while he was lying on the ground. While the usual suspects have decided to turn Grant into a poster boy for anti-police sentiment, the fact is that the officer in question made a serious mistake, and it cost a man his life. He has been punished for his actions, but it doesn’t help to restore the image of law enforcement.
Regardless, I believe it’s time we moved on. We need to understand that the police are a major part of society, and we need to build new bridges to demonstrate forgiveness and understanding. It is with this in mind, that I propose the construction of an altar several feet from where the shooting occurred, at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit station. This altar will be a tribute to California police officers, and will be sponsored by the Daryl Gates Memorial Foundation.
This tribute will foster further cultural connection between the police community, and the citizens who felt harmed by Grant’s death. Our organizers will include Stacey Koon, among other important members of the law enforcement community. We hope that by fostering better communication with the public, that healing can occur. Please join us on January 1st, 2011, the second anniversary of Grant’s shooting, to celebrate the opening of this heartfelt token of friendship.
P.S. If you have any comments or questions, or find yourself appalled at the notion, please explain why. Do you blame all California police officers for Oscar Grant’s death? Don’t police officers have rights, too? What are you, policeophobic? Admit it, you just hate all California police officers.

I have been wanting someone to write something like this. The scenario I had been thinking about was more of a hypothetical. Along the lines of a church going up where an abortion clinic used to stand that was bombed by those crazy bible thumping right wing extremists. Something that could make liberals understand why no normal sane American thinks this mosque is ok.
sammypants on July 23, 2010 at 11:28 AM
Your hypotheticals are vastly interesting. I suppose it is good to equate the innocence of the people in the Twin Towers with a den of murder, in the eyes of “moderates”.
Before we get all bent out of shape about “do you support bombing abortion clincs?!” No, and hell no. But I do find it boundlessly fascinating that a man/woman can type the above paragraph and not be struck by the sheer foolishness of their thought processes.
Yep, yep, yep. Keep flyin’ with that, chuckles.
Nice post, MadCon. o.0 An excellent analogy.

Well played.

Here, here! However, we should anticipate the bigoted backlash and preemptively prepare arguments on grounds of hate speech, particularly if they follow through with the proposed Ice-T clothing store next door.
Or something. (I’m tired.)

Great analogy, stellar job.

But, but, but,…
Good one, Maddie
hillbillyjim on July 23, 2010 at 12:09 PM
Epic fail to make some ludicrous comparison of two things that couldn’t possibly be less comparable.
Dave Rywall on July 23, 2010 at 1:33 PM
I was going to ask if that’s really all you’ve got, but I decided not to waste time asking a rhetorical question.
MadisonConservative on July 23, 2010 at 1:42 PM
Wait I have an even more stupid one for you
Chapman killed Lennon just trying to impress a chick, so what if the single men of America wanted to build a shrine on the murder spot saluting all men who go the extra mile to try to get laid. Would you oppose this shrine? Because if you did you would be saying single men can’t try to get laid.
Nope. Yours is way stupider.
Dave Rywall on July 23, 2010 at 2:25 PM
Maybe if there were a history of single men assassinating British pop stars.
Except there’s a history of Muslims carrying out terror attacks against Americans, and a history of police incidents where minorities get killed or seriously injured under uncertain circumstances.
Care to try again?

You don’t even realize that this makes your stupid apples to oranges scenario even more ludicrous.
Thank you for the laughs.
Dave Rywall on July 23, 2010 at 2:35 PM
Me: Water is wet.
Drywall: That’s the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard. Typical conservative.
MadisonConservative on July 23, 2010 at 2:39 PM
(Something bad happened at A + someone planning to do something near A that makes you cry) = apples
(something bad but completely different happened at B + some ludicrous hypothetical of someone planning to do something at B that would never ever happen that you pull out of your as*) = stupid oranges
A meaningless gasbaggy comparison that you thought made you look all clever.
It did not.
Dave Rywall on July 23, 2010 at 3:10 PM
A few months ago, you just described the notion of a mosque near Ground Zero being built by an outfit called Cordoba House. Hindsight is not a source. Try again.
MadisonConservative on July 23, 2010 at 3:17 PM
Sure it did.
The exaggerated ridiculousness of the scenario explains how ludicrous and backward-thinking the bend-over policies of NYC officials condoning the victory mosque.
You are usually a little, and I stress little, better than this.
hillbillyjim on July 23, 2010 at 3:18 PM
edit:
The exaggerated ridiculousness of the scenario explains how ludicrous and backward-thinking are the bend-over policies of NYC officials condoning the victory mosque.
Preview is your friend, hillbilly.
hillbillyjim on July 23, 2010 at 3:19 PM
Illuminating comparison, MC. I like it.
J.E. Dyer on July 23, 2010 at 3:21 PM
It’s a spectacular failed strawman of awesome proportions.
Dave Rywall on July 23, 2010 at 3:23 PM
Yes, Drywall, it will be considered a Victory Mosque to the Ummah. A tiny bit of research into the 1400 year history of this vulgar death cult of a religious political system will bear this out.
hillbillyjim on July 23, 2010 at 3:23 PM

How does this not describe to a T the mosque situation near Ground Zero just a year ago or even a few days before the building was announced?
I don’t think Mad’s comparison here is perfect, and it’s probably not the argument I’d choose, but you’re simply not making any sense here unless you’re truly coming from the perspective that having a mosque in a building that was damaged in the World Trade Center attack is not only normal but predictable.

Sorry for striking your comment.

I’ll just chime in to say, nice article, MadCon!
Mary in LA on July 23, 2010 at 3:51 PM
No more than me and you, but then you think that police deserve extra special rights and should never have to account for their actions beyond “I’m a police officer in the performance of my duty”.
That would make you policeophilic, about what one would expect from a holster sniffing badge bunny like yourself.
What makes cops different from all the other overpaid, overpensioned government employees who think they can run our lives?
Conservatives and libertarians who think the police are on their side will be in for a rude awakening when push comes to shove between the citizens and the leeches.
rokemronnie on July 24, 2010 at 12:25 AM
Wow.
Next you’re going to call Allah a Palinista.
I’m regarded around here as an anti-cop guy, which I’m not. Regardless, it was parody, which obviously flew over your empty head. Try again.

Smoking pot has worked wonders for your intellect.

Yeah that is the right quote ya big dummy!
Inanemergencydial on July 24, 2010 at 3:02 AM
I don’t see a direct analogy; I see a broad brush stroke, collectively painting popular and unproductive sentiments of the wrong kind; the kind of sentiments that serve to divide society and stoke the fires of racism.
The beauty of this piece is that if it was the debut piece from MadCon, we’d all (libs and cons) think it to be a popped zit from the lunatic fringe. Purely because you can be certain what his policies are is the only reason it draws personal attacks from his opposition. Beyond that, it would be a narrow imagination on the reader’s part for it to specifically evoke thoughts about ground zero.
Alternatively, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the responsive lib-perspective about the piece. The reinforcement that libs see the world through long straws is endlessly amusing.

MadCon;
1. Excellent post
2. Your point eluded Dave Rywall; imagine that!
3. Who knew rokemronnie would comment on a police-related post?
