WaPo: Gaza’s fine, Turkey’s fine, but the real problem is Israel…

posted at 3:02 pm on June 2, 2010 by

David Ignatius takes a moment to describe how a bunch of terrorist sympathizers firing at the Israeli Defense Forces was…in fact…Israel’s fault for, um, not letting them give supplies to terrorists or something.

The immediate problem for Israel is that the Gaza blockade is not sustainable. It is producing the opposite of the intended outcome: Hamas strengthens its control in Gaza while Israel becomes more isolated internationally.

Dave, Israel has become isolated internationally because Benjamin Netanyahu is in charge, and unlike a number of his predecessors, takes Intifadas seriously. Our latest President, the guy who is handling the Gulf oil spill with all the executive dexterity with which Russia handled Chernobyl, doesn’t like that kind of determination and fortitude. People often are jealous of those with the guts to do and say what needs to be done. So, when he’s not bowing to everyone else in the room, Obama treats Israel like a nuisance. He ingratiates himself with everyone but one of our most important allies…and you’re shocked that the international community looks down its nose at them?

The ships boarded on Monday were carrying 10,000 tons of relief assistance, plus hundreds of activists and peaceniks from across Europe armed with cellphones and video cameras.

Yep. And clubs, knives, and apparently firearms, and even stun grenades. But hey, why let the truth get in the way? Speaking of truth…

Turkey has regional ambitions, but it isn’t a crazy terrorist enclave and it doesn’t spout Holocaust-denying rhetoric.

Turkey doesn’t deny holocausts? You mean like their own? They’ve been dodging the fact that their bloodthirsty band of thugs wiped out a million and a half of their own people for nearly a century, and they’re still sore that Soghomon Tehlirian survived.

Someone please, please explain to me how people with so little knowledge of history, and so little ability to find out the details of major news stories, somehow get employed with the major newspapers of this country.

They protect the narrative above all else.

Israel has lately become ever more isolated for a variety of reasons since Barak’s attempt to reach a peace deal was abruptly, and stupidly, dismissed by Arafat.

None of the major ones, most recently the invasion of Gaza, have much to do with Netanyahu. Given time,Netanyahu’s administration will almost certainly make many contributions to Israel’s isolation, but why should the MadCon bother with accuracy.

Big Middle Finger about sums up the MadCon’s regard for fact.

So all you can do is claim that Netanyahu’s forthright attitude has nothing to do with Israel’s relations with the international community, based solely on your opinion, and cite that as some sort of inaccurate statement I’ve made?

Just awesome.

History and factual details are not required or desired when the goal is propaganda.

And here we have a typical example of one who has bought into said propaganda.

Unlike that other GR member, that’s not my style. I’ve deleted comments, but only when unarguable libel is being committed.

It’s startling to watch a Sullivanesque (or is it Johnsonesque?) meltdown in progress on Hot Air.

Dude.
