New DNC ad: Look! Over there! Abramoff!

It’s like some kinda…chutzpah time machine.

There’s something almost delightfully shameless in the criticism of Vitter for “breaking his vows” to his wife. I seem to remember a time when extramarital sexual activity on the part of a political husband was a personal issue, not a political one. The allegations about Ensign seem a bit more serious, but Mitch McConnell isn’t exactly jumping to Ensign’s defense. Which is more than one could say about how…certain other Democratic leaders have dealt with their scandal-touched colleagues.

My favorite part of the ad is the end, where Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff pop up for no particular reason other than to say “Hey, remember 2006 and the culture of corruption? Those were good times, weren’t they? Rangel? Massa? Those are not the ethics scandals you were looking for.” Can’t really blame them for trying to relive the glory days, I guess.

Although the DNC really gives this approach the old college try, one has to wonder which will resonate more deeply with the American public: extramarital affairs and soliciting prostitution, or passing a bill that impacts one-sixth of the economy by ‘deeming’ it passed after “softening” on your pledge to make the bill available online?

Hmmmm…

Blowback

Jack Abramoff? Isn’t he the guy who gave about 30% of his “donations” to Democrats even though they didn’t control either House or the presidency?

This is the same Jack Abramoff that’s pronounced so many different ways, but in polite society and in the context for our fellow HotAir readers, isn’t the “Abram” portion silent?

Grasping at strawmen… Surprised they didn’t toss in Wide-stance Craig, but that’ll be too ticklish.
