Miss Me Yet? Bush Billboard Mystery Solved

The mysterious George W. Bush billboard near Wyoming, Minnesota has been partially solved.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that the billboard was paid for by a group of small business owners:
“It was put up by a group of small business owners — who want to stay anonymous –because they felt Washington wasn’t listening,” said Mary McNamara, a spokeswoman for the company that owns the billboard. “They felt like it was a good way to get their message out.”
Yesterday, at Newsmax.com, Jim Myers posted this short story and you’ve got to hand some credit to NPR for using their “fair and balanced” multiple-choice explanation for the billboard’s creation:
Drivers on Interstate 35 near Wyoming, Minn., are greeted by a large billboard (see below) bearing a photo of former President George W. Bush, smiling and waving. The caption beside the photo: “Miss Me Yet?”
A photo of the billboard was widely circulated on the Internet on Monday, leading to speculation that it was the product of clever digital trickery. But Wyoming resident Bob Collins of Minnesota Public Radio confirmed to National Public Radio that the billboard is real.
No one has claimed responsibility for the billboard.
“At first glance, it would seem to be from some person or group who isn’t thrilled by President Barack Obama’s performance so far,” NPR reported, “unless it’s a more ironic message from those who didn’t think too much of Bush and want to remind voters about him.”
I guess we could say NPR should trust their “first glance” and leave the irony department to our dear Oliver Willis:
Answering The Bush “Miss Me Yet?” Billboard
This picture of a billboard is making the rounds on conservative blogs and in the mainstream media.
“I would like to answer: NO. Allow me to repeat: NO.
Mr. Willis goes on to post a series of graphs and photos depicting the continuing home foreclosures, how the world views the U. S., and New Orleans under water—-all, of course, Bush’s fault according to Willis. Ironically speaking, one has to wonder when Mr. Willis, (along with his liberal pundits), will confess that their “dear leader” has created his own set of “under water” policies that may make the devastation in New Orleans look like a picnic in Punxsutawney. It certainly appears some business folks in Minnesota might disagree with the “Oliver twist”.
Update: Dana Pico at Common Sense Political Thought says. “As long as the guy who contracted for the billboard paid his bill, who cares who had it put up?”

Well, you can safely expect a horde of big media outlets, the Strib and local TV stations to immediately assign scads of reporters to smoke out exactly who these anonymous businessmen are, and then await the chance to do stand-ups with the inevitable ‘rent-a-mob’ protesters who will then show up outside their offices or establishments.

Has anyone done a recent poll about Bush? I’m curious.
I also laugh at the Demcorats and their ability to blame all of their shortcomings (CRA, foreign policy, Katrina underwater) on George W. Bush.
I have to give them credit though, they are effective.

I’m imagining the 4.5% unemployment and $250B deficit that we had before the Dems retook Congress in 2006 are looking better and better to most people.
Something to remind your moderate friends of sometime before Nov 2010…
