Adam Lambert: Degenerate Punk

The ”American Idol” runner-up’s decision to engage in a puerile épater les bourgeois gay-kiss stunt on the American Music Awards broadcast is excoriated by abstinence educator Laura Gallier:
The response to Adam’s display was mixed. Many people were appalled and disgusted while others celebrated his originality and willingness to take risks. My reaction was something else entirely. . . .
For starters Adam, when asked if you feel regret about having exposed our nation’s children and youth to such blatant sexual themes, your response was, “I’m not a babysitter; I’m a performer.” Did it ever dawn on you that it was those same “babies” who voted for you on American Idol and made stardom possible for you in the first place? Have you no concern for them now? . . .
In your performance, you dressed like a man, wore more make up than a pageant girl, grabbed a female between the legs, then exchanged a sloppy wet kiss with a man. What exactly are you trying to communicate to your audience about manhood and sex? . . .
Please read the whole thing. Lambert’s defenders would claim there was something “daring” or “innovative” in his performance, and that anyone who objects to seeing such a display on prime-time TV is an uptight, homophobic, anti-sex puritan. I am reminded of something Wendy Shalit said more than 10 years ago:
“When you’re insecure, you feel like you have to sleep with . . . every guy who asks, because otherwise you have ‘hang-ups.’ You don’t have enough self-confidence to say, ‘I don’t have a hang-up. You’re just a jerk.’”
Which is an apt description of Adam Lambert — perhaps in more ways than one.

It doesn’t seem to be that big a deal. People aren’t really talking about it like it’s a big deal.
Conservatives maybe shouldn’t watch tv so much if it’s so upsetting.

ok… I found the video of the performance on line and watched it. I would like those minutes back. The “music” sucked, the choreography was useless raunchiness for raunchiness sake and Lambert jumped the shark half way through American Idol. If this was supposed to be some sort of Bob Fosse experience, they failed miserably at it.
Lambert is already a caricature of himself, he will surely be the next “how tragic” story we hear about.
Epic fail.

Never have heard of this critter till all this came to light. Don’t plan to watch him in the future. He does his and I choose not to not to watch.

Laura Gallier sounds like she does more excoriating before breakfast than most people do in a whole month.

Adam Lambert did not win American Idol, clean-cut Christian Kris Allen did. Lambert was the runner-up. Hope for the younger generation is not lost!

Can you imagine if Adam had won? It would have been… I can’t even imagine. We really dodged a bullet there.

Thanks for the catch. Corrected.

Perhaps liberals should simply demonstrate a little more self-control. Not everyone appreciates a pervert as much as you appear to do.

You shouldn’t read this post if it’s so upsetting.
jgapinoy on November 27, 2009 at 7:31 PM
that was clever cause of how it paralleled the sentiment I expressed earlier
happyfeet on November 27, 2009 at 7:37 PM
Really??? haha
jgapinoy on November 27, 2009 at 7:46 PM
Disgusting acts like that are why gay marriage will never win at the ballot box. Americans do not condone such debauchery.

I don’t have a hang-up. You’re just a jerk.

CBS said they edited the performance for the West coast, but the east and mid-west got the full treatment. Which means ‘Idiot boy’ carpet bombed the bible-belt.
I need more popcorn…

Hey, if Adam Lambert is the new Elvis, does that mean Perez Hilton is Priscilla?

yeah well you’re a stupidhead
happyfeet on November 28, 2009 at 4:52 PM
This “act” bugged me just as much as any “musical performance” involving a man and a woman. It’s not my “hang ups” or whatever, it’s that they are a**hats.
Thank you and good night.

Adam Lambert has killed his career before it got started and he will be a nightmare for his management to handle, what with his “in your face..I’m a sexual being” style. Sure, he is going to get tons of press and will probably sweep at awards time because he is the new shiny toy. However, 2-3 years from now he will be on Broadway and people will ask, “Adam who?”
He is the Dixie Chicks of pop-pop music. Remember when they had their little stunt in Europe? Their album went to #1 cuz libs are all activist and had to “support” them, went out and bought their album and then threw it in the corner without ever taking the wrapping off of it. They won all kinds of awards for being “daring and honest”, blah, blah, blah… However, they had to cancel their concert tour because they couldn’t sell enough tickets (I guess support only goes so far). And we haven’t heard from them since.
Gay Adam is the new Dixie Chicks.

Good lord…who cares? TOC, don’t you have some white supremacist site requiring your attention. Dude, you’re an embarrassment to conservatives everywhere. Go crawl back under your racist rock.

Sorry, that last post was directed at the feeble minded white supremacist known around here as The Other McCain. Tool.

It’s sad when the American Idol winner, Kris Allen, is completely overlooked by the media. I followed Idol this past year and Kris is extremely talented, but is married, and a Christian who did missionary work throughout college (he kept that secret on the show) and avoids controversy. Consequently the media avoids him and Adam is THE story. Kris CD debuted last week with 80,000 in sales, Adam, 200,000. And Kris in my opinion is the more talented. So controversy sells, which is a sad commentary on our culture.

You’re an idiot.

Legend has it that Frank Sinatra once got a razor cut, put on a bespoke tux, stood in one spot and sang real good. I’m trying to track that down, but I can see how that couldn’t work for Adam Lambert.
Chris_Balsz on November 29, 2009 at 5:02 PM
I gotta agree that in 2-3 years, Lambert’s gonna be on Broadway, caterwauling his way through some new revival of Phantom of the Opera, Rent, or mayhap the Pirates of Penzance or Cats.
