Any officer who could not abide the bipartisan consensus that we will not create a military big enough to smash a nation with 1/10th our population, and 1/1000th our economy, will not be voted into general’s rank.

As a former Marine I look at this from a much simpler position. Granted, I’m a conservative and can’t identify with liberalism, but nevertheless-

Any Marine that would align him/herself with the most liberal Senator (which he apparently did) is, in fact, a liberal. Case closed. Any honorable uniformed soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine that can find common ground with any progressive has abandoned their oath. You cannot align with an anti-military mindset and maintain your loyalty to your fighting comrades.

This is like a Federal Prosecutor becoming a Mafioso Consiglieri and someone asking if he’s still a proponent of the rule of law.
