Great post, Howard.

My worry, which derives from what you’ve said, is that Barry’s inaction, deliberate or otherwise, is going to quickly lead to solutions to global concerns being formulated in places other than the US (such as the recent news that Israel and Saudi Arabia are cooperating against Iran).

While this can be positive on the surface – as the US cannot, and should not be expected to, resolve all the world’s problems – it will also set the precedent of by-passing the US on issues of critical global importance.

Which is about as great as it sounds, if you’re one of the world’s many dictators; but not so much for the rest of us.
