Dr. Joe Klein has delivered his learned diagnosis. No, it’s not a brain tumor, though that might be welcome news. It turns out that we who stand opposed to policies of the current administration are racist.

In what has to be one of the most psychologically revealing portraits ever — albeit not of the patient but of the diagnostician — Klein presents an airtight argument for his immediate confinement to a mental hospital for psychiatric evaluation. You want to talk about demons? Try putting yourself in this poor bastard’s shoes:

My sense of the teabaggers is . . . complicated: they are primarily working-class, largely rural and elderly white people. They are freaked by the economy. They are also freaked by the government spending–TARP, the stimulus package etc.–that was necessary to avoid a financial collapse. (I’m not sure Keynes is taught in very many American high schools.) But most of all, they are freaked by an amorphous feeling that they [sic] America they imagined they were living in–Sarah Palin’s fantasy America–is a different place now, changing for the worse, overrun by furriners of all sorts: Latinos, South Asians, East Asians, homosexuals…to say nothing of liberated, uppity blacks.

I might joke here (“he knows us so well it’s scary!”) if this weren’t so pathetically delusional.

Klein goes on to explain how our hatred of Obama is based on “what used to be called miscegenation–a mixed marriage,” but this just shows Klein doesn’t what century it is. (“Mr. Klein, do you know where you are? Do you know why we’ve brought you here and why you have been restrained?”) Yes, people used to oppose mixed marriages. People used to do a lot of other things. They used to place a defenseless individual in an arena with a man-eating tiger for their personal amusement. Can Klein differentiate between now and then? (“Mr. Klein, do you recognize this woman? She’s your wife, Mr. Klein. Do you know her name?”)

At least Klein hasn’t lost his sense of humor. He correctly observes that Obama “is a liberal,” then adds, ostensibly for comedic effect “even if a prohibitively moderate one.” Only Klein isn’t joking. He really believes this. He really seems to believe lots of things.

In an ultimate act of self-deception, Klein ends his article this way: “I take comfort in this: the racists and nativists have always been with us, and they have always lost. They will lose this time, too.”

To which I respond, right on, Joe. Keeping writing brilliant, incisive commentary like this to help “the cause.” We racists can use all the help you can muster. Oh . . . and ignore those scary-looking cattle prods, humming with electricity. (“We are not going to hurt you, Mr. Klein. We are to help you, even if we have to shock you back to reality.”)

I’m not sure how much more relentless stupidity I can handle being exposed to.

“Liberated, uppity blacks” is a despicable thing to write no matter what your intent, but I bet Klein really enjoyed exorcising his left-wing racism guilt through writing that one.

Also regarding the what period of history are we in meme: Notice how they particularly want to pin the racist tag on those from the South. Joe Wilson is really getting hit because he’s from South Carolina and we know how racist those folks are! When loonies from California (like Maxine Waters) were Bush-bashing that couldn’t be racist because…

As you said, Klein’s ridiculous claim says nothing about us and a lot about him, all negative. This part of his article isn’t really scary because I don’t think anyone really believes it. The hard left say it in the manner of a religious liturgy to help them feel good about themselves, and everyone else rejects this argument right off the bat.

The more scary part is Klein’s equally ridiculous claim that Obama is a “moderate liberal.” This one is pernicious because it is both plainly false but also plainly believed by many people, including so-called conservatives who STILL support Obama.

(I’m not sure Keynes is taught in very many American high schools.)

Yeah, because Keynesian economics work so well. Right?/

Public service, urbanity and cosmopolitan values are what is great about American, and Keynesian economics…the public sector, our great metropolitan areas and our bloated federal government are none of them self-sustaining. They are sinkholes that live off the backs of working America.

Anyone who uses the bagger term is immediately dismissed as any kind of honest critic IMHO.

The good news is that, based on poll results and stock prices, what Kline is selling, people ain’t buying…….

And that’s a comforting thought.
